I am 38 weeks pregnant with DC3, and over past few days have suddenly developed REALLY painful piles.

I had piles after birth of DC2, but not painful, just there, if you see what I mean.

This time, have not been constipated at all, recently the other case which I thought might be a 'sign' on imminent labour , so it seems weird to have developed them. Just today, it's really sore even sitting down - what do I do? I hear some suppositories (sp?) on prescription are best bet: do I call midwives for that, or GP? Or can I get them over the counter at chemists? Can wait for days for doctor's appointment, and don't think I can suffer that long!

Sooooooo grateful for advice, thanks.

I had beautifully painful piles after birth of ds2.

I went to the dr's and she was lovely and literally popped them back in!

She assured me was all normal etc and apart from me wanting the earth to swallow me up, it was over very quickly, painlessly and not had a problem since.

If you have to wait a few days for drs maybe ask one of the nurses there for an appointment? Possibly mw?

Do get them looked at, as they can become engorged and difficult to pop back in. If they are so painful that you can't sit comfortably, then you need to GP to have a look for you. Nothing they haven't seen before, so while embarrassing for you, it'll be over pretty quickly

Horrible, isnt it. The advice I was given was to buy the cream and apply several times a day... It's supposed to reduce the swelling. I recently had a bad case but it did calm down after 2-3 days.

Hi syden. I am in the same boat...38 weeks and got the mist painful piles a couple of weeks ago. It even hurt when.lying down! Went to see gp and she said they were infected as very red, swollen and painful. Got some antibiotics and felt much better within a couple of days. Also, anusol is good for soothing any general discomfort.

Ahhh, the joys of pregnancy!!

I sympathise whole-heatedly too, I'm just recovering from a terrible bout of piles. My advice is go for the GP as soon as possible. I I struggled with over-the-counter cream for 5 days...did nothing. Finally gave in and went to the doctor, got suppositories, cream and tablets (Daflon, for circulation) and after 3 days things are significantly better. And the GP didn't even need to look....yah, result!
