Shouldn't use second hand mattresses, but what about...

Pushchairs? Can't help feeling it's a similar thing? Made of fabrics/ sponge etc and babies sleep in them. So is it better to have brand new pushchair, safety-wise, or is second-hand ok? And if it is ok does anybody know how/ why they're different from mattresses? TIA

Well a baby will never turn over and sleep face down in a buggy, or be in them for as long as a nights sleep. don't know if that has anything to do with it. I had a new mattress but second hand buggy, didn't really think about it at the time

I think second (or third or fourth) hand is fine. Maybe buy a new mattress insert if you are concerned, like thunderbolt suggests. That would be much cheaper and more environmentally friendly than buying a new pram.

We've got a second hand icandy apple. New mattress for carrycot and I just either washed/sponged down the other bits - it looks like new & I don't have any worries about using it at all.

Felt most smug at getting a bargain and being environmentally friendly by accident!

I used second hand M&P pram and buggy, all of the fabric came off and went in a wash with nappysan

and we bought a new footmuff which was quite thick and that was what the baby was lying on

Superslinger · 25/06/2012 16:17

Thanks ladies. So washing and new footmuff. I'll try that and see if it stops me worrying...
