I think I may be pregnant, period well overdue and the clearlue test says 3+ weeks pregnant, but I'm going to test again in a week as I don't really believe it.

Anyway assuming I am pregnant how bad are the following:

I wasn't trying at all and have not been taking folic acid?
I have been drinking wine? Glass during the week and more at weekends.

The test is probably wrong and I'm worrying over nothing, but are these things really bad?

I have never been pregnant before so if I am, what do I do now?

Don't the digital tests date from conception as opposed to lmp. I would add two weeks onto what the test system to get how many weeks you are, especially if you have a long cycle. The gp may not agree with this but your 12 week scan should.

Oh and congratulations

DangerMousey · 22/06/2012 17:49

If you google "due date calculator" you can put in the date of your LMP and the average length of your cycle, and it works out your estimated due date for you. An also tells you how far long you are likely to be at the moment. Might be worth doing this? Spesh if you don't have much idea when conception took place.

Thanks for that. It tells me due date is 21st February and I am 5 weeks.

That's a great time of year for a baby. No horrid hugeness in hot weather, no hiding why you aren't drinking at Christmas. Congratulations!

Pinkflipflop · 22/06/2012 18:24

Thanks youllaugh what a lovely encouraging thing to say!!

I hope so. I was aiming for encouraging! Seriously though, I have a close friend who has been through this. She cried for a week when she found out she was pregnant. Even though she was married, had a house, had a dog, settled in her job. It was all just such a shock. She now says it is the best thing that ever happened to her and DC1 has been joined by two (planned) siblings.

Congratulations Pinkflipflop - I'm not surprised you're feeling a bit shell-shocked, it's a huge piece of news to try and process.

I was trying for a baby and had been ultra careful for months. Decided to have a bit of a break from it all as it was getting v.stressful. Then I had a weekend where I had a dinner party and a birthday meal out, I ate liver and soft eggs and drank too much and got wrecked. I found out I was pg on the Tuesday! I felt v. guilty for a bit until I did my own research and found that it was not a huge problem. DD was and is beautiful!

Bless you! I doubt the test is wrong. Am sure you'll be retesting tomorrow though!

Don't worry about not having taken folic acid before now. You can just start next week. And re the wine, as long as you haven't been drinking bottles and bottles I'm sure you'll be fine. You can stick to fizzy water for the next 9 months!!!

If you take another test and get a +ve then you need to get an appt with your GP and they'll refer you to your chosen hospital and you'll be sent your first 'booking' appt with a midwife, who will then give you all the info you need to know. And if they leave anyhrhing out...theres always MN!!!

Clarella · 23/06/2012 17:52

Tbh its a mind blowing shock even if you are trying! Congratulations!

Clarella · 23/06/2012 17:55

Also (correct me if wrong) the baby feeds of its yolk sac till it grows its placenta which is later around 9- 12 weeks (i think) after lmp so bit of alcohol not massively to be worried about (plus most of the worlds mums prob had a few before realising :) )

Folic acid is added to lots of cereals etc too.

Pinkflipflop · 23/06/2012 19:41

Well thanks for all the useful and encouraging comments, mumsnet is great!
