ARGH; Can't decide if I'm being paranoid or if I should call midwife again.

About 3 weeks ago I had some pain low down in my belly and reduced movements; went to assessment unit, all was fine and I felt like a bit of an fool, but the staff were lovely.

Today I had noticed the babies movements were different, they feel kind of muffled/weak but I can feel him. About mid-day I got a pain in my belly, at the top of my bump but it's now gone away. I just went to the toilet and had some blood when I wiped, pinky brown in colour.

I'm moving house today so doing quite a bit, is it down to this or shall I ring midwife?? I just called but it's engaged. Wondering whether to try again or calm down a bit first?

I think the advise is to call the midwife and get any change in movement checked out. Give them a ring, be safe and set your mind at rest.

Indith · 22/06/2012 16:20

Absolutely no harm in calling. It will put your mind at rest to talk to her. Nothing is too silly and nobody will think of you as a time waster. Your MW is the best person to decide if you need to be seen or not.

FutureNannyOgg · 22/06/2012 16:21

They will never have a problem with checking just in case, just call.

Flisspaps · 22/06/2012 16:23

Please call them - this is what they are there for.

Better that you make a hundred calls and feel like a fool every time, than don't call once and regret it.

BenedictsCumberbitch · 22/06/2012 16:24

Does your hospital have an assessment unit? Rather than trying to get through to your individual midwife?

BenedictsCumberbitch · 22/06/2012 16:25

Also if you're Rhesus negative it's extra important of you have had any spotting so that you can have some anti d.

pumpkinsweetie · 22/06/2012 16:27

Go to your local hospital, they will have a fetal monitoring department where they will scan you.
It is probably nothing but best be on the safe side, get some rest op

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 22/06/2012 16:32

Thanks everyone, it's nice when you all say the same thing it makes me feel less like a paranoid first time mum Grin.

I called midwife, she said sounds ok, but ring assessment unit. They said any more spotting or if the pain comes back or if movement stops to go in right away and pop a liner on for the next 3 days.

DP has now instructed me not to leave the sofa and to point where I want them to put stuff, so I will be resting!

I would 100% be on my way to the day assesment unit. Better safe than sorry. That is what they are here for anyway

combinearvester · 22/06/2012 16:35

ShouldIbecross how many weeks are you? Have you had any problems in this pregnancy apart from the reduced movements 3 weeks ago?

I would be tempted to go in to the assessment unit anyway to get a trace done.

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 22/06/2012 16:37

I agree - go to the assessment unit anyway

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 22/06/2012 16:47

Sorry combineharvester, in my hysterical state I forgot to say I'm 26+4 weeks with no problems other than hypermesis (still), I weigh 8lbs lighter than pre-pregnancy but baby measure bang on with scans and bump measurements.

do you both mean go in even though they said probably fine? I have a doppler here, I could whip that out? I know his heart rate is usually in the 160s?

kitsonkittykat · 22/06/2012 18:02

Should, I would just pop into the assessment unit anyway, and have a trace done. They really won't mind, and it will put your mind at rest.

I had to go in a couple of times with my second baby, due to spotting, they just put me on a trace, and kept an eye on me. I felt much better for going in and checking.

Flisspaps · 22/06/2012 18:04

If you're ever concerned I'd get monitored, I wouldn't bother with home Doppler for reassurance.

EddieIzzardIsMine · 22/06/2012 18:08

Should I agree, when I had bleeding in pregnancy they advised me to come in every time just in case - its like someone said up thread, better to ring/go in 100 times and everything be fine isnt it?

It'll put your mind at rest (and ours!) if nothing else

BenedictsCumberbitch · 22/06/2012 18:14

Please don't use those home dopplers. They're bloody awful and completely useless in the hands of someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Go into the unit.

combinearvester · 22/06/2012 19:22

Sorry I left! Yes I meant go in anyway - they can't check if baby is okay over the phone. Bleeding past 13 weeks of pregnancy is not normal (unless its your show and you're at the end!), most likely its something like a harmless cervical erosion but they really ought to confirm this. The bleeding needs to be checked.

Not sure if 26 weeks is too early for a CTG thing but they did one for me at 27 weeks. They will also be able to do a speculum exam to check your cervix is not dilating etc.

Hope all is okay, let us know.

ontheedgeofwhatever · 22/06/2012 20:31

Agree with everyone else. I've been to triage twice in this pregnancy with reduced movement and both times they've been brilliant, entirely sympathetic and were able to put my mind at rest by putting me on the monitors. Both times baby was moving fine but for some reason I couldn't feel it properly. Don't feel you're wasting their time they would honestly rather put you on the monitor for 20 minutes and find out everything is OK than have you wait a couple of days and end up needing emergency intervention

When I was pregnant with DD I think I was in every few weeks often i the middle of the night and they never seemed to mind and used to tell me to come back any time i needed to.

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 23/06/2012 00:31

I'm back!! Heartrate was great, but they want to scan me tomorrow to make sure everything looks ok. Did an internal and everything was good. They aren't really sure where the bleeding has come from but because I live 1 minute away and promised to go back in if I got more blood/pain they let me sleep at home for the night.

So back tomorrow for a quick scan. I can still feel him moving around, he's changed from kicking on the sides to kicking down low on my bladder, so hopefully it's just due to his movements?

Fingers Crossed.
