I transferred care fairly late on in my pregnancy with dd to ESH, previously I'd only experienced the hell that is the post natal ward at St George's Tooting, so to me it was like heaven on earth. I had a cs so was on the high dependency ward (dunno if that makes a difference) but it was lovely. Large room, only three other people in there (whereas St George's would have crammed at least 10 more in there!), the food was really really nice. Lovely little dining room with a telly right next to where my bed was. At the change of shift the lead MW would visit everyone to say hello and see if everyone was ok/had any problems. It couldn't have been more different from my time at St Georges.

I didn't have much ante natal care there as I only transferred there at 32 weeks, though my cs was completely smooth and worry free.

I'm due to have my first baby there in a few weeks - we did a tour of the delivery suite etc a couple of weeks ago and it seemed well organised and, as headfairy said pretty spacious. A couple of friends have recently had their babies there and all seemed to go well with then, but I would be interested to see what anyone else has to say on here!
When are you due? :)

I had my older two there now aged 7 and 5 and I couldn't fault it back then it was a really brill time but wasn't sure what it's like now as obv crawly hospital has more a less shut all depts so I know east Surrey now cover a very big area.

Am also interested in ESH. Anyone from 2013 had any experiences? Seems to be improving there now...

Beccadugs · 07/08/2013 18:28

It's got a fab new MLU, and so far I can't fault the EPU. Hopefully I'll be going there next March.

Most recent friends had babies there 18 months ago and where very pleased. My neice was born pre-refurb, but they were very good!

ooh that's good to know. All I can find is really really bad stuff but from 2008-9. It's the closest to me, but there are others I could go to. It has waterbirth facilities there right?

Beccadugs · 09/08/2013 10:55

Have a look at this stuff. I think there are 4 in the MLU, and double beds so you can have family cuddles!

I've just had my booking in and am on consultant led care so will have to go to the main hosp sadly.

Beccadugs · 09/08/2013 10:55

Not thy it's bad, but the MLU looks so nice!!

Hi - I'm due to give birth to DC2 at ESH in October (I had DC1 at Kingston but have since moved areas).

So far everyone I have spoken to has been very positive about their birth experiences there. The ladies at my refresher NCT group also said the breastfeeding support they received post-natally was good too.

I'm currently trying to decide between the MLU and the main Delivery Suite, but I suspect it may ended up being determined by which has space available when I go into labour.

Cheeky as you say, ESH covers a big area and there was a recent news article about it having to turn women away on occasion.

Becca I have had good care from the EPU too - both when I miscarried last year and when I had some bleeding early in this pregnancy.

Beccadugs · 09/08/2013 18:22

You'll have to let us know how you get on bridget as I'm not due til March...

Still my other alternative is May Day in Croydon so I think I will be insisting on ESH!!
