I did Pendulum at 26 weeks in Brighton a couple of years ago, DH wouldn't let me near the front though Sad

Concider it early musical education for the baby! I went to see The Subways at 10wks, and the lead singer nearly dived ontop of me from a balcony, got a brilliant video of it on my phone!!! I'll never stop going to gigs, just have to be sensible about where you stand and take advantage of the lovely stewards and the facilities!

RedBlanket · 22/06/2012 14:34

Not music but I went to see Peter kay when hugely pg. The lovely steward let me sit in the area roped off for wheelchairs and use the disabled loo. He also escorted me and DH to the exit telling people to move out of my way (actually a bit embarassing)

Just to clarify there were no wheelchairs in the disabled area and I wouldn't have refused his offer if there. It was after my third trip to the loo that he offered me the space.

is it safe to go to the olly murs concert in march this year whilst being approx 7 months pregnant?

thanks

coral1212 · 11/07/2012 12:22

sorry march 2013

kdiddy · 11/07/2012 12:28

I went to Glastonbury last year when pregnant, plus various gigs - last one about 38 weeks I think? All fine. Just don't get right up at the front and you'll have a great time! DS used to go mad kicking at the music.

mrsbugsywugsy · 11/07/2012 13:03

I'm going to Hard Rock calling this weekend at 12 weeks pregnant (provided Hyde Park isn't flooded), and Reading festival when I'll be about 20 weeks. I will plan on staying well back from the stage and take a chair or blanket to sit on.

I think later on at least people will be able to see your bump and you might be allowed to sit in the disabled area / use disabled loos?

Hopefully in years to come Bump will appreciate having seen Soundgarden, Iggy Pop and the Cure before s/he was even born!

littlemisssunshine3 · 11/07/2012 13:38

You will be fine, I went to see Faith no More( loud rock band) at Brixton acadamey last night and although I did not go to the front, I did have a little jump around and had a fab time. Am off to see another band on Friday too :) I did make sure that I had a couple of packets of Fruit Tella in my pocket to keep my blood sugar up and the other half and friends made sure that I was drinking plenty of water.

GrandPoohBah · 11/07/2012 13:53

I went and saw The Offspring a few weeks ago and it was absolutely fine.

If you get tired though, it's a good idea to get unreserved seating as that way you can have a bit of a rest! I was mainly spending all my time craning my head looking at the 'pit, pulling a sad face at DH for not being allowed to go in!

sammyleh · 11/07/2012 15:00

Do it! I'm going to see Blink 182 tonight at I'm 25 weeks :) have fun! x

littlemisssunshine3 · 11/07/2012 15:12

MRSBUGSYWUGSY I will see you at Soundgarden, probably in the queue for the loo :)

Clarella · 11/07/2012 15:16

off to womad at 23 weeks Grin. mainly worried about toilets in the night..... and sleeping in a swamp. might get a 'boginabag' :)

nancerama · 11/07/2012 15:21

Of course! I went to a gig at 42 weeks pregnant. I was hoping the dancing and vibrations from the speakers would bring on labour. I had a great time, but still needed to be induced.

passivehoovering · 11/07/2012 15:25

I went to X-Ray Spex when pregnant, but can't remember how far gone I was, 20 weeks maybe? Baby started to go mad at the loud music. Someone threw beer at me, but that is as dangerous as it got :)

sammyleh · 11/07/2012 15:28

I'm loving how much good music taste my fellow Mumsnetters have by the way... rock on ladies!

FireOverBabylon · 11/07/2012 15:37

I went to see The Specials (at their reunion tour not in 1980!) when I was 6 months pregnant. I got the tickets for DH's 40th and found out I was pregnant 2 days later. There was no seating at the Ricoh arena, so everyone was dancing, swying and charging around. I felt it safer to move out of eye line of the stage after the first couple of songs because other people around me were consciously trying to avoid bumping into me or holding onto the railings to act as a buffer between anyone in front of them and me, which I felt was unfair on them. They weren't with us or friends, just other people at the gig who were conscious that there was a pregnant woman near them.

I ended up dancing behind the raised platform for the band's parents, where other people were happy to dance with me but to give bump the space it needed. DH was off somewhere moon stomping with the rest of them. It was a great birthday present for DH, he still talks about it, but I spent good money on a ticket for a band I ultimately didn't see, only heard from behind this platform. I wouldn't begrudge DH the experience or the chance to get Terry Hall's autograph in the car park beforehand but for me it wasn't quite like going to a concert IYSWIM.

Go if there is seating, as bump will be protected, but be mindful if it's standing room only that you may have to move bump to a safer location during the evening. Oh, and at the end of the night I could tell I'd been standing for about 3.5 - 4 hours as well. Another reason for thinking again about standing only venues.

QuizzicalJoan · 11/07/2012 15:40

As with everyone else, I've been to rock, pop and jazz concerts, festivals and open-air music events in local park while pregnant, right up to 30 weeks. It's as fine as anything else. The main issue is how long you can stand for - obviously you can sit on a picnic rug at a festival (don't imagine I'm in the mosh pit these days!), but I've been to concerts in arenas, indoor music venues as well.

It's a little known fact that any music venue WILL have spare seats for persons with disabilities, fainting persons, pregnant women... So even if it's a standing event, a steward will find you a seat. The view of the stage will not be the main concern, but you'll be able to stay in the gig and sit down. I know this because a friend designs/project manages music venues!

mrsbugsywugsy · 11/07/2012 17:44

littlemisssunshine you have great taste in music!

I had a ticket for Faith No More too, but I decided to sell it. It was for Sunday night at Hammersmith, I had to go to work on monday morning and my train would have got me home at 3am Shock. I am in bed by nine these days, so I decided it would be too much. DP went and had a great time so I am v Envy

littlemisssunshine3 · 11/07/2012 18:47

Mrsbugsywugsy Thanks, I am hoping that bump will think so too. Maybe if we take our bumps to all the cool gigs they will grow up loving Alice in Chains and not Girls Aloud :0

I was very lucky that a friend had driven so managed to get a lift home( I went straight to sleep on the back seat). I was pretty tired and ready for bed 2 songs in, had to keep going out for fresh air and a sit down too. So the plan for Friday is to take a camping chair, sleeping bag and maternity notes(so that the nice security people will take pity on me when I need to wee for the tenth time and give me my own loo )

mrsbugsywugsy · 11/07/2012 20:11

littlemisssunshine their website says chairs aren't allowed Sad:

'I?m afraid no chairs are permitted into our Hyde Park events as these are standing events only.'

I will take a picnic blanket and hope it's not too wet!

PrincessOfChina · 11/07/2012 20:15

Have fun. Like another poster said, you'll probably get special treatment!

We went to The Arcade Fire when I was 34 weeks. They moved our seats from high up in the stand to right at the front. I danced the whole time!

mamalovesmojitos · 11/07/2012 20:20

I went to a gig and late club the day before I went into labour. You'll be fine Smile.

Northernexile · 11/07/2012 20:38

Saw Kasabian last year at 7 months and was fine, reckon Jessie J's crowd will be fairly tame TBH. You are probably more likely to be jostled in the queue at Sainsburys!

GrassIsntGreener · 11/07/2012 20:40

Oh yes. I was overseas at a HUGE rock concert at 20wks! Just keep yourself somewhere where you won't be getting pushed about. Have funn

joberg · 11/07/2012 20:53

I went to see oasis (and drove 450k) when 38 weeks. DH booked me seats as far away from speakers as possible. I had a great time... Have done it since with other pregnancy too! And, the kids love music! :)
