Bump support - anyone used one?

I'm 30 weeks this week with a big beach ball bump (2nd pregnancy). Last time DS was 9'11 and I am a lot bigger this time, carrying it all out front.

I'm finding walking quite heavy going especially pushing a buggy and was wondering whether the bump supports sold by Jojo Maman Bebe, etc. are any use.

I used a Reenie support belt (I think it was called that) which I ordered from JoJo or Blooming Marvellous, can't remember which. It was the one which is a very wide single strap of elastic with 2 shorter straps which you pull tight and velcro onto the main one to support your bump. I found the support very good, although the velcro stuck into me and was a bit itchy. Also, I had a very big bump and grew out of it by the end so I'd recommend you buy a bigger one than you might think you need.

HTH.

Thanks for that gingernut. Last time round I scoffed at them but I will look into it - it would be good to have some support.

I had a mild case of SPD and got prescribed a fem brace by the physio, it helped a hell of a lot, if thats any use to you. Bit bulky and conspicuous though - one woman actually stopped me at a shopping centre to ask me what it was for, felt very stupid, but usually it was tucked away under my clothes

I was given the biggest piece of tubigrip (sp?) you've ever seen to support my bump. It did help though and I could adjust the folds as needed. Your midwife might be able to get you a piece.

Yeah tubigrips, 9 weeks post birth I'm still wearing mine

Mind you its very warm in this weather.

I used one of those belts and it was fabby. Having read about spd on MN, I'm certain I had that as well as sacro-iliac problems and the belt was a great help esp as I was on my feet a lot in my work.

I am currently wearing tubigrips due to SPD ... they are a great help although it is getting a bit warm here in NZ ....
I have been offered a 'Smiley Belt' to buy which is an NZ invention (by a Physiotherapist) that looks good but really there is not much point as I have 7 weeks to go and I am not planning to have anymore children!!
There is also something called a 'BellyBra' which is made by the same people who invented the 'BellyBelt" (that thing that lets you wear your trousers for longer - didn't work for me as for some reason my bottom expanded before I got a bump ). The BellyBra ... looks great but is $100 NZ which is 30ish quid so again not worth it if you are towards the end and not planning to have anymore ....
Anyway ... go for some tubigrip ... cheap and does the trick!!

Can anyone tell me where you get tubigrips for pregnancy?

Ghosty · 11/12/2003 19:33

I got one from a physiotherapist that I was seeing for SPD and then a friend of mine gave me a couple that she had got directly from whoever makes and sells them .....
Why don't you ask you midwife or doctor ... they might be able to help
