Rocking/Glider Chair - ARMS OR NO ARMS?!

I am trying to decided which sort of breast feeding chair to get and am SO confused.

I read somewhere that you MUST NOT get one with arms as they'll get in the way...

Two minutes later I read somewhere else that you MUST get one with arms so you have something to rest the pillow on...

Any thoughts please?

Thanks

My mum said to me the other day no arms - I inherited an antique wooden nursing chair which is very low and has no arms but have never actually bf so not sure! Not sure you can get a rocker without arms?? Be interested to know ...

Traditionally, I think a breast feeding rocker was wide and had no arms, but I breastfed last time in an ordinary armchair and found arms comfy but it really depends what works for you. The most important thing is that you can comfortably bring your baby up to your boob not the other way round. This time I have treated myself to a glider rocker that has arms. The first time I used one was in Mothercares feeding room when DD was a baby and I wanted one then, so this time it is my luxuryWink

I have a chair with arms & I'm so glad I do - my arms would ache otherwise!

I'd just say that unless you have pots of money buring a hole in your pockets please don't buy a chair just for feeding. Surely you've got at lest one comfortable chair in your house that you can use. I really don't see any advantage in having a rocker/glider. Spend the money on a couple of good quality cushions instead!

I'd say definitely get one with arms. To support your arm holding the baby. Although if you get a breastfeeding support pillow you probably don't absolutely need them. Can't see how they can get in the way. We have a dutalier glider with footstool. Not one of the special breastfeeding ones as the non-feeding ones had nicer fabrics. We will keep it long term as it's really comfy!

Have to agree with Battleship they are not necessary, but mine was a luxury (cheap from eBay) and we will be keeping it after, because agree with Titan too - it is so comfySmile

I have a Poang from Ikea with a cushion on the arm. Started off as the booby chair, but renamed as the story chair after dd loudly pointed out a row of them in Ikea to the whole shop Blush It's shortly to become the booby chair again for dc2. Highy recommended and not too expensive. Don't think I could have managed without the arms as mine aren't strong enough.

A second vote for the poang. The arms are quite low, so useful for leaning on without getting in the way.

Thank you!

Definitely with arms. But I agree it is best to buy a cheap normal chair, not one of the ones from a specialist baby shop, which are a total rip off and crap quality.

I also highly recommend this support cushion. It was brilliant for breastfeeding in lots of different sorts of chairs - great at other people's houses.

i am now BFing my 9m old

trust me i NEED to arms on the chair....

Springforward · 21/06/2012 22:28

Arms save you a lot of upper/ mid backache. You need to rest your elbow on something.

missingmymarbles · 21/06/2012 22:48

The poang wasn't the right angle for me. Maybe it was just ours, or maybe I was just too heavy and pushed it but it tipped me too far back.

We have Poangs, I loved them for BFing but getting out while holding DS was tricky.
