Hi

I am rhesus negative, this will be my first time being given anti-d during pregnancy. My app is the first week of july, and I think I will have another 4 weeks later, I'm not too sure. Does anyone know how many anti-d injections are given during pregnancy ?

Anyway my husband wants me to travel abroad in the same week that my app is due, would you risk, changing the app and go travelling or make sure that your here for the injection??

Thank you for your opinions

With my first dd two years ago you had 2 injections but this time they've changed it to one dose. I don't think you can have it earlier but I'm not sure that having it a week later is a major issue, check with mw. Some say they felt a bit off for 24 hours but most are totally fine, I can honestly say it had no effect whatsoever. It's just like having any other vaccine really. It's really nothing to worry about, just agree date with mw and enjoy your break.

I would second what monkeypuzzeltree said. I had two in my first pregnancy but only one this time. You will need to make sure that the appointment is changed, if necessary as the anti-d will be ordered for it.

Either one or two, depending on the PCT/area.

They always give it at around 28 wks, and sometimes you get another at 32 weeks. If you dont get the one at 32 weeks, they test the baby at birth, and if the baby is Rh+ve, they give you another dose. If the baby is Rh-ve they dont need to.

I had mine at 29 weeks both times, and not a problem.

They like it to be within a 2-3week specific timescale so just change it, will be fine. The during-pregnancy injection in just to allow enough time before birth to prevent you building up antibodies.

Both pregnancies I had it sometime between 28-32 weeks and again when both babies were born with positive blood types

I would call your midwife and ask her. I'm sure there will be a way around it.

Just wanted to add that if you have any bleeding after 12 weeks you should let them know (as if you wouldn't be on the phone like a shot Grin) as you'll need an extra one then, I had a lot of bleeding due to a sub chorionic haemorrhage and got an extra jab at 13 weeks in case the baby had come into direct contact with my blood.

Also remember that you will be due repeat blood tests at 28 weeks (need to be done before Anti D given) so you need to consider that when planning your travel - and if you are planning to fly if your airline is happy for you to fly and if so do you need a Dr note.

Kelbels is right, also of you have a fall let them know for same reasons

do you know dh's blood group in terms of rhesus factor? if he's negative too you don't have a problem.
