Hello everyone,

I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and have not signed up to any antenatel classes as yet. I have been researching online and have found the NCT classes which can become quite pricey, I am aware that NHS have classes to however I have no idea how to find out what classes are available and how to book on them in Edinburgh. I intend to speak with my midwife regarding this however wodnered if anyone here could help?

Thank you! :-)

Speak with your midwife asap. In england at any rate, I think she is the one who books your place.

I didn't get booked in to NHS ante-natal classes due to an admin error and as a result I didn't get to do a hospital tour either.

Luckily I could afford the NCT classes which were brilliant.

Thank you for this, im sure it works the same way here. Midwife has not mentioned any of this to me and its my first so not thought to mention either however I will give her a call. NCT classes are an option for me also however not really heard any reviews about them. Glad you found them useful, have you had your baby as yet and if you dont mind me asking what kind of birth did you opt for and what classes did you book on? Sorry million questions here.

Thanks

Hiya, I've just had my NHS antenatal classes in Ed. At my 28 week appointment I asked about them and they told me when and where to turn up. In leith there's very few midwives around this July so they are doubling up current classes just now as there won't be as many classes on offer in July. Just phone them up.

I'm 32 weeks now.

DD is 17 mo and I had a home birth.

Only wanted the hospital visit so I would panic less if I had to be transferred in, so no real loss there.

I don't have any family close by and even my friends are a good hour away (apart from work colleagues) so I found the NCT classes brilliant for building up a local support network. They also clearly went through all sorts of birth options, pain relief, looking after baby, changing relationships, getting dad involved etc so hopefully more comprehensive than the NHS ones.
