Am nearly 13 weeks and for the last week or so I have been getting this really intense pain in my right buttock. It is not always there but when it is it hurts so much I end up limping it then goes into spasms and I feel like my leg might give way. What is this and what can i do to stop it?

Please help.

Hey it sounds like sciatic nerve pain. Yesterday morning I woke up with excruciating pain in my right leg. I kept mobilising it although it hurt like hell, but gradually I think I released the trapped nerve and it's now if e. if yours is ongoing though maybe a trip to the gp or chiropractor to have it checked?

sparklekitty · 16/06/2012 10:09

Yep sciatic nerve by the sounds of things. A good massage might sort it or put a tennis ball on the spot that hurts then lean against the wall and roll the ball around. I know to sounds weird but my aunty is a massage therapist and this is the advice she gave me for if I ever got problems with my sciatic nerve. Worth a try.

I had this! It's a trapped sciatic nerve. Something to do with the way your body is changing shape and you're counterbalancing the changes. Very painful I know. I don't remember how I got rid of it, just lots if rubbing I think. Which when it's a pain in your bum cheek makes you look a real loon!!

Dinosaurdrip · 16/06/2012 10:24

Thanks for your replies, guess rubbing and keeping moving it is then. Did you have it throughout your pregnancy or did it just stop? I'm hoping the latter is the answer. Ah well ds1 & 2 are finding it funny that mummy can't chase them without stopping to rub here bum (im not being very discreet obviously) so at least someone is enjoying it.

I had the same problem around the same time, Dinosaurdrip. I can second Sparkle's tennis ball trick - although I put it on the floor and sat on it, rolling it around the offending buttock. This really helped and haven't had that pain since.
..Although, as it is all to do with your pelvis widening and changing, I have now had lower back issues since about 18 weeks.
I would recommend you tell your MW/GP and ask to see a physio/ chiropractor for a diagnosis and also tips on how to sit and sleep. They should be able to recommend some helpful stretches.

Mine stayed the whole time - sorry!! It didn't seem as bad as time went on but by then my hips started aching, my ankles were sore and I was itching all over! The joys eh??? GP should be able to advise or refer for physio if really bad.

DangerMousey · 16/06/2012 21:09

I had this at around 11 weeks - it lasted about 7 days and was horrible! really sore - especially when I got out of bed in the morning. It felt like something had seized up overnight, and I would be hobbling to the bathroom, yelping in pain, feeling like my whole right leg was 'giving way' from somewhere deep inside my butt cheek!

I called my midwife and she said it sounded like something caused by all the stretching and changing in my pelvis, and that it would just go away on its own. I was really skeptical and spent a good few nights moaning to DH that she probably should have referred me to a physio.

Anyway, after a week or so, it just went away of its own accord, like the midwife said it would! I really hope you have the same speedy recovery. I am now 16 weeks and have not had any other issues with my back/butt/muscles etc so far.

Thank you for all your replies I will mention it to mw when I see her if it hasn't gone before. (hopeful) I think DP is getting pissed off with me whining now. Ah well only another 6 months to go.

Dinosaursrip...you whine all you want! Pg is tough

And not wanting to put a dampner on things but DD is now 8mo and I am still having back problems as my body readjusts. It's like every morning I get out of bed and my back is so stiff and seized up, all round the back of my hips.

Sorry....
