Yes, in my second pregnancy a few random strangers and then also my midwife in the hospital told me out of the blue that I was having a boy. They were all right.

everythinghappensforareason · 14/06/2012 22:04

I had one person tell me I was having a girl - 'definately a girl I'm never wrong' she said. A month or so later she said 'definately a boy I'm never wrong' Talk about edging her bets!!! I had a boy BTW

Meglet · 14/06/2012 22:08

Everyone 'knew' my DC1 was a boy. Friends, family, collegues at both jobs, gym instructors, cashiers, old ladies... and they were right. No one said he would be a girl. Was very odd Smile.

everythinghappensforareason · 14/06/2012 22:09

haha, covered her back there, she was always going to be right :o thats why shes never wrong haha! two people have told me im deffinatly having a Boy, jeez im only just over 4weeks. would be made up either way though :)

I did the ring test and got a girl five times, but everyone is saying it's a boy from the shape of the bump, or they just "know". Haha!

What's the reliability rate of the ring test? Wink

I don't know how the bump shape works. Not every single woman in the world who carries low and very forward could possibly have a boy. That's the shape of my bump - but my actual body shape is that my waist is always the last place to gain weight....so it stands to reason my bump wouldn't spread around.

We shall see in 4 months - we need a spreadsheet of what we were told versus what we have, proper scientific like Grin

My mil was convinced we were having a girl, told us everytime we saw her it was definitely a girl and said can't possibly wrong as she had been right for last 18 babies she guessed. We have been convinced from day one it was a boy. At private sexing scan at 18 weeks when it was announced it was a boy first thing we said was ha ha mil wrong, we didn't mind what sex it was as long as he was healthy. Took great joy in telling her she was wrong though!

ButtonBoo · 15/06/2012 08:41

Everyone said I was having a boy. The way I was carrying and the fact that dp has 1 brother, who in turn has 2 boys. Dp's dad is one of 4 boys etc etc. I was the only one who was convinced it was a girl (secretly what both dp and I wanted) and guess what...it was a girl! Just goes to show...mums know best!

My friend (the only other one who thought I was having a girl) swears by 2 things

  1. If you get a linea negra which goes up to your belly button, or none at all, it's a girl. If the linea negra goes over your belly button, it's a boy
  2. If you rarely have to shave your legs in pregnancy, it's a girl. If you're still shaving as regularly as usual, it's a boy
SweetPea3 · 15/06/2012 08:44

Bettybat - the ring test worked for me and all my friends!

ButtonBoo · 15/06/2012 08:45

Should have added that several thought I was having twins. I was huge! At 28 wks I remember people on the bus saying, 'are you sure there's only one in there?' or 'oooo, not long to go now'. I was thinking 'are you frigging kidding me? I've got 3 mo left'

Everyone will have an opinion on your bum

ButtonBoo · 15/06/2012 08:46

Bum...bump! Oops!

CupsofTeaAndHandfulsOfCake · 15/06/2012 08:49

People do have an opinion on your bum!
They will comment if its bigger or smaller.
Clearly staring at the size of the wobbly bits of pregnant women and commenting on them is acceptable.

GnocchiNineDoors · 15/06/2012 08:51

You might be onto something with the hair. All my hair just stopped growing.

Shame, as I messed up my eyebrows and had to cope with horrific eyebrows for 9months. Next time I TTC I will start immaculately groomed so if it is a girl I will have no leg/armpit/bikini/eyebrow hairs needing removing for the whole 9months.

20wkbaby · 15/06/2012 09:08

Both times I was told my bump was boy shaped - girls both times!

20wkbaby · 15/06/2012 09:09

Oh and both times I barely had to shave my legs, although got quite a hairy tummy!

GnocchiNineDoors · 15/06/2012 09:39

If theres a next time and I go Yeti-like ill feel certain its a boy

LookAtHerGo · 15/06/2012 09:40

bettybat the ring test was wrong for me!

LittleWhiteWolf · 15/06/2012 09:43

My MIL said she had a feeling I was having a boy in both pregnancies. First time she was wrong, second time she was right so a 50% success rate. FWIW I knew the gender of both of mine from the start...just a strong feeling.

Pinkie29 · 15/06/2012 10:52

We're not finding out the sex so I shall just be replying 'a baby' when ppl ask Grin

everythinghappensforareason · 15/06/2012 11:29

Haha love all these replies ladies, yes deffinatly think theres 50% truth in them all :o ive looked at the chinese lunar calander, was right for DS, apparently this 1 is a girl. I was told last time i was expecting a girl and convinced in the 1st trimester it was, this time ive been told boy and feel it is a boy! all very odd. ino the only sure way to no is by ultrasound(most of the time) or at birth. its fun trying to guess though. We done 1 i found online yesterday and hadnt heard of before, someone puts a fork and spoon under two seperate pillows then u walk in the room and pick 1, spoon=girl, fork=boy. haha! spoon yesterday and today for me!! anyone else tried thiis one?

I think in terms of scientific research none of the old wives tales work. Except...

Women's intuition. More times than can be accounted for by pure chance, a woman guesses b/g correctly (for her own pregnancy this is).

I knew dd was a girl. I dreamt she was a girl, I referred to her as 'she' from the very beginning. With ds I had no idea at all.

All the other stuff is bollocks. But I do love the confidence with which people announce their proclamations.

everythinghappensforareason · 15/06/2012 11:39

Yeah i think a woman does have some idea, i new with DS right before are sexing scan i announced it was a boy! i have a feeling of a boy this time, but mostly because everyone else has said this. think its to early for even me to pick up on this :) x
