I need to do something.

I'm just over halfway through my 2nd pregnancy and am feeling deflated, lazy and unhealthy. I'm eating more than ever and not getting the exercise I should be.

I used to run 3-5 miles 3x a week at least, and was fit before falling pregnant. That's all gone down the pan now. I couldn't continue due to awful sickness which has now passed.

I'm wondering if there's any pregnancy yoga on YouTube or those fitness channels I could follow? It's always been too slow for me tbh I prefer more energetic things but I think it's my only hope!

Otherwise I'm v tempted to dust off my 30 day shred and do the bits I can manage.

Help?

There are loads of pregnancy exercise dvds - borrow some from the library or buy someonline. Do NOT do the shred - it would wreck your pelvic floor and would be a really bad idea. I did Davina's prenatal dvd, pregnancy pilates dvd (which was great for my back) and Erin O'Brian pregnancy exercise dvds when pregnant with DS2

Do you know, I didn't even consider the library even though I always use it for books!

Great tips thank you.

hello i didn't like the erin dvd. got on my tits. i have joined a tai chi class and do a one to one yoga (very lucky it is a good price) every week. these have been a godsend, and after tai chi tonight I feel fantastic. would thoroughly recommend.

Walking? I've been doing some pretty long walks and it's really helped!! I was running like you, doing circuits 2x a week and riding 4-6 times a week. Still riding, stopped running due to morning sickness but have biked a tiny amount, but walking has really helped me!! I'll start swimming once I've figured out the opening times?!

I'm 20 weeks. Starting yoga next week hopefully but worried I might just get the giggles :)

Lol horseylady that's what I'm like! Can't relax and keep a straight face, I tried Pilates once and got awful looks from everyone for getting giggly.

I can walk, I live in a good area for walking but it has to be with that purpose, as there aren't shops or anything here to walk to in order to fit it into my daily life. To cover any distance it would take too long for most days.

I've just found a 25 min 'best workout at home in pregnancy' vid on YouTube with good comments so might give that a bash.

surfmama Is that a special pregnancy thai chi?

I've always had the idea it's more for relaxation than exercise I guess I'm wrong?

I find a gentle swim (or vigorous if I've got some energy) is great for the bloating and water retention - I seem to deflate the next morning! Try going in the evening in case you're tired afterwards and eat a small snack about an hour before and right after. If you went a couple of times a week or even every other day I bet it wouldn't take long to build a little stamina up especially if you used to run. I think its more about the regularity and routine at first what ever you do!

I do like the Erin stuff though, actually quite a sweaty work out. I play Capoeira (though not much since preggo) and she does a little squat thing I showed the group how to do which even knackered them!

I'm loving the pg yoga, I'm a real giggler but it is just so nice to have some time just for me and the baby, and I do feel like my muscles have been stretched in a nice way. I wasn't very fit before and sometimes it's quite challenging, although probably be a breeze for you. I reckon still worth it though to focus the mind and keep energised.

I used to do Tai Chi, it's slow-moving but still a martial art and uses lots of strength and control.

surfmama · 15/06/2012 11:50

hello well I find the tai chi and yoga brilliant for keeping everything supple. I used to run and gym and cycle and am finding that a slower way is better for me during preg. am now 9 months ready to pop and our tai chi lady has said that i have been the longest preg lady she has had, most stop at 6 months. It is brilliant for energy - can really feel things moving around body and also allot of focus on a point below tummy button which is exactly where baby is so they are getting all that lovely energy we cultivate in class! Yesterday I had a mad moment got in at 3pm and cleaned van, mowed lawn and cleaned windows, so that keeps me in cardio health I hope - and may have been a sign! fingers crossed! oh yes have put on no weight at all other than bump, and feeling great so didn't have to worry about not running etc!

horseylady · 15/06/2012 16:11

Ah I walk the dogs everyday once or twice so there's always a purpose!!

Yes will let you know how I fair at yoga. I've beenbad enough getting the giggles at both scans and when the mw listened to the heartbeat!! I'm nit sure how ill cope in a quiet room breathing. It might be ok. Im going alone so no one should set me off!!

VickityBoo · 15/06/2012 16:18

Ah, going alone definitely would help! Good luck Grin

Definately don't do aqua natal if you giggle, I piss myself everytime (not literally) (oh that's what pmsl means just worked out) everyone looks so funny galluphing up and down.

Frontpaw · 15/06/2012 16:23

Swim, walk - even go to the gym! Anything you like as long as you take it easy.

My NW told me that she suspected that she was seeing more babie being born with their little arms up, or streched out because mums were doing yoga (so they had more room to - not sure - lounge about in the womb presumibly!).

Maybe Pilates?
