Sickness all the way through

Am almost 31 weeks, and still sick. Wanted to hear that others were/are sick the whole pregnancy (misery loves company, and all that) and that I will eventually enjoy eating again! Never thought I would welcome labour so much...

not me - but I can tell you my sil was with her first pregnancy - very very ill at first and then constantly feeling nauseaus and depending on what she ate - also ill.

Hope that helps..... try salada bikkies.

eidsvold · 24/02/2006 10:09

just a quick hijack - Monday - so far no call to cancel YET hope the sickness goes - but salada or saltine bikkies helped me not feel so ill.

Bouj, both me and thebecster from your MayBabies group are still "riding the porcelin highway" with you daily. Though with you in Oz and it being summer I have much more sympathy with you. DD was a summer abby (and thats Welsh summer, not Oz Summer) and it is so much worse being sick when its hot. At least with the winter pregnancies (and it's snowing here today) we can snuggle down on the sofa and wallow in self pity. My thoughts are with you in the heat. But just think what a fab delivery and post natal experience you are going to have this time in Oz compared to last time in the UK. Enjoy your private room and kind midwives who will actually look after you!

So, you are nearly 31 weeks? My sis sent me a lovely text last week when I hit 30 weeks and said "You are 75% of the way there - that is an A in any exam" What a great thought! Also, when you are feeling really sick remember that for every day you have left to go this week, you have already survived 3 more days than that. Pretty soon it'll be4 days and 5 days and you will meet your lovely little one very soon indeed.

thebecster · 24/02/2006 13:23

Hi hockeymum ! Bouj, you are not alone. I'm 27 wks & still just as sick as I was at 5 wks. It's really miserable, isn't it? Especially hard for you in Oz - my sister is in QLD, had both her babies there and was sick until after the birth with both of them - she really suffered with the heat, dehydration etc.
I also find comfort in reading threads on MN from others who are feeling the same.

Well-meaning people around me tend to make 'helpful' comments like 'isn't the sickness supposed to be better by now?' ... And that makes me feel more alone, like some endlessly vomiting freak of nature! On MN I've read threads from people who are feeling even worse than I am. My heart goes out to them, and I feel a lot less fed up. Hey, at least we're not frightened of labour - I'm ready to go through ANYTHING to stop feeling this way

Hi Bouj

I had sickness up to month 5 of my first preg. I remember speaking to my MW about it and her response to it was " the worse the morning sickness, the easier the labour!" ....
And it was!!! So after this, going into labour and having little one should be a doddle.

By the way why do they call it "Morning Sickness" when it lasts virtually ALL Day?

KateF · 24/02/2006 14:00

I was sick for the whole 40 weeks with dd2 and dd3. Was sick after the birth as well. Took me ages to get the confidence to eat a meal again having lived on cornflakes for 9 months but believe me I soon learned to enjoy my food again! Now where did I put that diet sheet.......

Thanks all, good to hear I'm not alone. Hockeymum & thebecster - I'm sorry, I was aware you both were suffering, hope I didn't seem whinging cow! Its the monotony of it I can't handle - every bloody day! Obst said on thurs that labour will be easy after this, and when I laughed and said I hope so, he said 'no, seriously it will be'. The man knows his stuff, willing to put my faith in him! 9 weeks and counting....

I was sick all the way through and just after i had my ds, i thin it went when the hormones did. feeling sick everyday and vomiting every fews days but more at the begining. I did try everything but nothing worked.

hockeymum · 25/02/2006 11:16

Bouj, you're not at all whining!!! That's what we're here for!! Its not like there is tons of sympathy going spare at home is it? You didn't come across as whiny at all, but even if you had it would have been acceptable you poor thing!! Feel free to whine away all you like FWIW I imagine your sickness is made doubly bad (at least) by the hot weather there, have you tried ice lollies (not too strong, just plain ones - I find Sun lollies work well over here) and lots of icy drinks? Keep yourself cool and rested and whine when you need too.

eidsvold · 25/02/2006 23:16

Bouj - where are you having babe???

Bouj · 27/02/2006 07:10

Thanks all. Ginger capsules seem to be having a slight effect. Will try ice lollies, actually - have been living on ice cold fizzy drinks (baby probably has a major sugar addiciton already). Eidsvold - Mater Mothers Private. Am told it will be miles away from my NHS delivery with ds!

Dw was like this eating little and often 1 biscuit at a time)was all that worked for her I'll tip her the nod about this thread and she'll pop on if she has time

allyco · 27/02/2006 14:01

A fellow vomiter here and I'm 34 weeks.

I too suffer horribly all the way through and don't stop vomming until generally a day or so after delivery. And no, I don't think my labours have been easier (I wish). So no miracle cures to offer am afraid, just lots and LOTS of sympathy.

Kathy1972 · 27/02/2006 17:36

Bouj - I had dreadful sickness too but mine eased off in the last couple of months of the pregnancy, just when I'd given up hope.

Yes you certainly will enjoy eating again - I am the only person I know that actually put on weight in the few months after having the baby.

DD is 8 months now but I still suddenly think to myself from time to time, 'Isn't it FABULOUS not feeling sick all the time?' Didn't have a particularly easy labour (she was back-to-back) but the first months of being a mum were heaven - a lovely baby and no sickness!

Good luck - you will feel better one day!

eidsvold · 28/02/2006 12:41

i had dd2 in royal woman's - and went public - they were fab... have friend who had babe at mater mothers and seemed to like it. Most private patients out our way do RWH or north west private. Be interested to hear what you think. I had a good NHS c-section and staff on the ward caring for me there - fabulous surgeon also... so can't complain about that. GIven own amenity room with own ensuite - but dd1 was in ICU and then SCBU... but they were in no hurry to get rid of me.
