Hello

I did post a long time ago about consultants but at that time no one gave me feedback.

I am seeing Helen next week when I am 20 weeks.

I am keen to know the format as I will have my 4.5 year old with me and I cant say too much infront of her!

I have written out all the details emotionally and physically of the previous birth - which was text book etc, no problems....

I was wondering will she initally ask me what I want - then i go back or do we thrash it all out there and then - then she makes a decsion and books me in?

If I do need to give my side of the story there and then, would it be appropriate do you think if i hand over my notes - for her to read?

As in would the environment be condusive to that?

I was dreading this appt at first - after the way some consulants have treated women on here, but after doing as much research on Helen as I am able too, I think I will be in good hands?

I think infact I will be extremly lucky - am I right ? I really really dont want a fight - I want someone to listen to me, and go from there.

wILL she book me in there and then if she agrees or are there more appts.

Also has anyone mentioned this after care business?

Many many thanks in advance if anyone can help! Its D Day soon, the day I have been dreading since I knew I had fallen pregnant again after two and half years of trying!

Hi Eliza, I think we posted before on a Royal Berks thread! I had a pretty bad experience first time round (failed induction, Emcs) so had this 20 week consultant appt second and now third time round. I need to warn you - at no point have I actually seen a consultant. I have just seen registrars.

It all depends what you want I guess. I went in knowing I wanted a vbac with DD and whilst that suits them and their stats the registrar was very "you must have CFM, you cannot use water" etc. it was marketed to me as a trial of labour. I thought about arguing but then thought "fuck it, I'll never see that doc again anyway" so there's no point wasting energy. I went in on the day prepared to argue but had a lovely midwife who agreed to monitor me every couple of hours and I progressed so fast that it all became pretty academic. Went from 2cm to Hello baby in about 3 hours.

This time round, saw a registrar again who basically said "you've had one vbac do what you like." I then met with a Supervisor of midwives to go through a birth plan in order to make sure there is no dicking around on the day with refusing me pool access or suchlike on grounds of previous cs. It does happen.

So, basically what I'm saying is they are very pro natural birth and should support you in that. Thatvwon't be very helpful if you want a planned cs though!

Anyway, I'm 39 weeks I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi Wasabi

thanks so much for this info, a couple of days ago there was a thread about the very consultant i am meeting for birth trauma and hopefully asking for an elc, so i was hoping some of those posters would still be around as i am very very nervous and also my young daugher will be with me.

Thanks so much for the post though, but I do not want a vb under any circs....

I can see i have stupidly forgot to mention abvov i want an ELC!
