Hi all,

If you have 2 mins, would be grateful for your opinions. I am 23 weeks and have put on 2 stone 4lbs. At my calculations, by 40 weeks I will be over 15 stone, from 11 stone at the start.

I am trying not to stress, I already have swollen ankles, so think a lot of it must be water, but this just seems like an awful lot of weight, considering that, even though I am munching through the odd ice cream, my eating habits really haven't changed that much.

I do need to make a midwife appt soon I think, so, will ask her for her medical opinion, but I just wondered, as I don't have any preg friends, is anyone having the same/ or has had the same experience, and is back to normal weight on the other side!

Thanks

I put on between 4.5 and 5 stone in both pregnancies and lost it all and more. Was quicker after first pregnancy but think it was due to eating too much once DD was born! Plus not so much walking around with a buggy as she slept better.

Hi Hun I am 33 weeks and now weigh 16stone and in really not happy about it at all! Everyone keeps saying my bump is massive aswell it's really peeing me off ! No it's not twins FFs it's one yes one baby! I'm hoping it's a lot of fluid ? As a scan at 28 weeks showed she was measuring small. I haven't swollen up but I have gained nearly 2stone now an still with 7 weeks to go am undoubtedly going to gain more so ur not on your own! I have read somewhere tho that at 32 weeks baby weight plus blood fluid placenta etc is already an extra 10-15 lbs so gives you An idea it's not all diet etc

I put on nearly 5 stone during my pregnancy. DS is now 15 months and I'm nearly back to pre pregnancy weight. I could have done it a lot quicker, but found breastfeeding made me constantly hungry (despite also drinking about 4 litres of water each day!) and just the general shock to the system of having a newborn to cope with meant that I didn't exactly worry about diet or exercise Grin

I'm certain if DS had been a good sleeper I could have coped with trying to lose weight quicker, but he's still not sleeping through so I'm still fairly shattered. It is possible to lose the weight, I think I lost a stone within a week of giving birth (baby/placenta/waters etc) so immediately started feeling a bit better about myself.

Only problem I've really got now is that my ribs and hips are much bigger than pre baby, even though I'm only a couple of lbs off my target! Think that must just be bones that have moved, just got to accept it I suppose.

Yep, I did 10 stone to 14 stone but 2 stone of it had gone 6 weeks later (I think I lost just over a stinr during the birth). If breastfed and a year later had 10 pounds to lose mostly because I did too much baking when dd was napping.

PogoBob · 13/06/2012 16:45

I put on 4 1/2 stone by the time DD turned up at 41+4, it had all gone by the time she was 4 months old as most of it was water weight.

As long as you are trying to eat as healthily and balanced as you can (and that includes the odd ice cream!) I wouldn't worry too much.

I feel your pain. I put on 3.5 stone with dd1 and only lost 1.5stone so started this pregnancy at 11 stone (i'm not tall so this isn't a pretty weight for me) and have already put on 8lbs (I'm only 13 weeks). I am ashamed of myself but am determined to end up between 9.5 and 10 stone by the time I go back to work next July. Fingers crossed!
If you are eating fairly sensibly (I'm clearly not) then I wouldn't worry about it, you can sort it our after the baby is born. My friend put on 5 stone both times and lost it again.

Stop weighing yourself. It's only numbers. Keep active, eat healthily and put the scales down!!
