its driving me mental Angry i know you are more prone to it during pregnancy but im getting it every 3-4 weeks now relentlesly (im 28 weeks pregnant). GP prescribes treatment which is effective but then it comes back again within the month..have always been more susceptible to it get it 4-5 times a year EASILY even when not pregnant. does anyone have any advice away from the usual back of canestan packet gems such as no tight jeans, no bubble bath, heavily scented soaps etc etc that helps to limit the number of attacks of the sodding thing????

There is a theory its related to diet especially if you eat high amounts of sugar. Could you try cutting right back on the amount of sugar you consume to see if it makes any difference (miserable I know but perhaps not quite as miserable as bad thrush).

There is actually something called the Candia Diet - google it and I think their webpage has some useful advice.

My sympathies by the way I had a really horrible attack a few weeks ago and everything swelled up to what felt like twice its normal size and itched violently

Hey just wanted to say I had thrush a while ago and its horrid. If you get it a lot could it perhaps be your partner passing it back to you as they can have it with noi symtoms think they can use the cream on the end of there penis to help stop it coming back? Ask your gp. The only other thing I can think is maybe its your washing powder make sure you are using a non bio sensitive one and if you are try switching brands and liquids are better than powder as they tend to leave no residue. Hope it gets better soon.

Hello my love to b fair I have given up! I've tried everything ! First time I've ever had thrush too ? This is my third Dc I'm 33 weeks now and have been suffering since about 20weeks I'm now jus under the impression I have to deal with it and hopefully it will go after birth? It's bloody miserable but I can suggest biofem gel £10 on amazon it has really eased the symptoms I can't say weather it helps after sex as Im too bloody scared to do it now cause it stings so bad I don't want to risk it :( but I'm deff more comfortable! The pessaries did nothing or the yoghurt or the change in diet :(

Have you been checked for gestational diabetes? Constant thrush can be a symptom.

Yep all clear x

Try cutting out yeast products (bread, pizza, Marmite, beer), fried food, cheese, mushrooms, coffee, excess sugar and salt and citrus fruits

I know it may be different in pregnancy as cheekychops has said above but I used to get constant mild thrush, always worse when my thyroid went a bit low, also as I swim and do martial arts a lot which didnt help. Last year to support my thyroid I started upping my yoghurt intake quite a lot (mainly as a good source of iodine) - roughly a big pot over 1 or two days. The biggest difference I noticed was that I became thrush free. Also a better digestive system.

I actually really like the fat free ones as they are more tangy tasting and love it on my porridge. And I guess more yoghurt for your calories! It needs to be plain obviously as sugar feeds thrush and I tend to get different ones from the different supermarkets, as some use different bacteria, for a range. sainsburies 'be good' is my fave but all pretty much the same. Have it with curry, chilli con carne, grate cucumber, mint and lime into it for taziki (sp!), with strawbs, dried prunes or tinned fruit, or a blob of honey, really yummy. Went off it earlier in pregnancy but ok now.

Definately try the other diet ideas as above, it may take a month though.

You are also supposed to be able to apply to down below to help also but never done! Good luck, I know its a blooming night mare.

hello - cut out sugar and white refined carbs as much as poss, limit dried fruit. should really cut out all fruit but this is a bit extreme. get lots of veg.

get a probiotic, cytoplan or bioforce are good makes (not the sugary muck they sell in supermarkets)

you can use calendula cream/lotion on vag, it is antifungal and has cleared mine up a treat. you can get in boots, 3 for 2 and it good for rubbing on nipples in preparation for breast feeding also!

hope you get it better soon it drives you bananas doesn't it!

hey there, thanks for all your advice and tips. not getting re-infected as make DH use oral capsule + cream whenever i have a breakout. also, u need to have sex to pass it to one another!! ha ha.....4 DS's already and 28 weeks pregnant does not a frisky mama make Wink i'll mention to midwife the gestational diabetes angle but have no other symptoms of that so doubt it will solve anything. plus i also get it more than the average woman does anyway even if im not pregnant. I'm in between attacks of the dreaded thing at present so i'll give the diet changes a whirl and hopefully that may help to get me thru the next few months! here's hoping!

Def cut down on sugar and yeastband take probiotic (I take capsules and I swear it helps).

marchpoppy · 14/06/2012 12:43

I went to see a nutritionist with this same problem and she said it was linked to adrenal fatigue and put me on a diet (which I did stick to for a while, now lapsing - mainly high protein in morning instead of carbs or sugars and eat every two hours plus lots of relaxation) to address the adrenal fatigue. It did help. Also eat lots of natural yoghurt and put it on internally once per month at least, a Dr told me the yoghurt needs to be 'activated' before you put it on - so put it at room temp for an hour before using or on a radiator in v cold weather for a few mins.

I am nearly 37 weeks now and have had thrush pretty much throughout my pregnancy (I haven't had it before being pregnant). After about 3 courses of canestan pessaries and creams, which worked for about 2-3 weeks then symptoms came back my GP gave me Daktarin cream and pessary. It definitely hasn't made my thrush go away completely but if I put the cream on religiously morning and night I don't get any symptoms which is enough for me. Fingers crossed it will go away after I have given birth.
