Sore undercarriage! TMI

I am 6m pg with DD4 and I am getting really sore 'bits' - they are all swollen and dry and just sore. I haven't had this with any of my other pg even at full term, it's definitely not thrush though.

Any ideas (or do I just put up and shut up!)

the swollenness is common due to increased blood flow and pressure down there and you can get varicose veins down there, i did with no 4 and no5 but they disappeared after the birth!

no idea about the dryness, i was always damper than usual in pregnancy,, i guess you could ask your gp or midwife to have a check?

vulval varicose veins. They get better when you've had baby, but sometimes still bad at period time for some reason.
Sucks.

TruthSweet · 12/06/2012 14:46

Vulval varicose veins Shock I have leg veins that are going that way (my mum, uncle and grandad all had/have 'bad' veins so I was expecting it) but I didn't anticipate vulval ones.

I have even tried bepanthen nappy cream to see if that helps Blush which it did a bit.

Nice warm bath helps, and wearing a big comfy pad.

TruthSweet · 12/06/2012 15:27

By 'pad' do you mean a sanitary towel or padding like a cushion?

I had that from about halfway thru with DD (2nd PG) was horrible, all swollen and sore. my sympathies.

TruthSweet · 12/06/2012 15:43

Just as long as it doesn't mean baby is close to being born I'll cope. I was a bit worried someone would say it meant the baby's head was engaged or some such - DD1 was induced early so not engaged and the other 2 only were engaged in labour so no comparison!

yes, big fat comfort pads, like we had to use in the olden days before the really thin ones were invented. The extra pressure used to help.
Forth pregnancy and they all take their toll on our bodies.

And brains,
And houses. etc etc.
Good job they are utterly gorgeous eh.

lagartija · 13/06/2012 06:28

I even had a look at mine with a mirror and was a bit horrified ..I .don't recommend it! They went away the min she was born tho. It's just the weight of the baby ...more likely in subsequent pg cos everything's knackered

ThatllDoPig · 13/06/2012 08:51

Grin Yes, ignorance is bliss. Don't look. Especially if you have piles as well!
lagartija do you find now when you have your period you feel like you've been kicked down there? Achey and horrible, not just womby pains.

lagartija · 13/06/2012 08:56

Pig Yes, but then I always did get that achey undercarriage thing with periods, even long before I ever had children.

ThatllDoPig · 13/06/2012 13:37

You are not alone!

TruthSweet · 18/06/2012 14:27

Well, a bit of an unexpected update here! It's been getting worse to the point sitting and walking hurts, even with me sitting in baths for ages (if I can't sleep I sit in the bath and read for an hour or so!) and wearing a support band to take some of the weight off so I went to the Dr today.

Once she had composed her face to something less like horror she told me it was probably psoriasis and a possible low level thrush infection (she'd never seen anything like it though Blush)! Not vulval varicose veins luckily. Swabs have been sent off to check. I have psoriasis on my hands but it's never been anywhere else.

Here's hoping the steroid cream and the pessary work.....

Ouch. Hope that clears up soon!

For those asking about varicose veins - applying a paste of cornflour and water helps, apparently, and there's a herbal oil you can get from the States (disclaimer: I haven't tried it, yet) - www.amoils.com/varicose-veins-remedy.html

Maybe Neal's Yard does an equivalent?
