Just been prescribed this for severe nausea but having read the leaflet that comes with it, it says it's not recommended for early pregnancy. I'm around 7 weeks.

Has anyone else used this during the first trimester? A bit of reassurance would be appreciated!

I was given this in hospital at 6 weeks for hyperemesis. Had a scan at 6+1, 12 and 20 weeks and everything is fine (I am 21+4 now). I have just stopped taking it last weekend as I [touch wood] seem to be able to function normally again.

I did read the leaflet when I got the prescription renewed and saw that it wasn't recommended for early pregnancy, but the option was not take it and not eat or drink at all (I couldn't swallow without wanting to vomit) or take it and be able to eat and drink. It did take me to about 15 weeks before I actually wanted to eat and drink, prior to that I was forcing myself to eat anything.

Plenty of people do take it in early pregnancy. Doctors vary as to whether they will prescribe it. I had hyperemisis and chose not to take it but I was basically incapacitated by nausea and vomiting until about week 20-24. I went to live with my mum and she looked after me as I was unable to walk more than about 1 metre without vomiting. I could do nothing - even getting to the toilet was a struggle. Depends on your situation and how ill you are as to whether you can avoid taking it. If you are at the point of hospitalisation, I think you have to take it as it is worse to get severely dehydrated from not taking it.

Thanks for all the reassurance Smile. I'd have thought that this being my second pregnancy, I'd be more relaxed, but clearly not!

I'm not actually vomiting and GP knows this, just really really bad nausea and dry retching. Makes wanting to eat and drink a struggle.

Bubbless, hope the scan goes well.

blueglue, sorry to hear you had such an awful time

Someday..., here's hoping the rest of your pregnancy continues vom-free
