17 weeks gone with dc2. All of a sudden horrendous diarrhoea. I have no fever or even painful stomach cramps really. I am pretty sure it's not something that I've eaten as everyone else is ok & I have no sickness apart from a little nausea.

I didn't have this with DS1 although admittedly that was a very different pregnancy. I have googled and it seems as though others do have it and it's hormonal. I'm very rarely I'll with stomach upsets normally so this has been a bit of a shock for me!

Has anyone else been through this? Any advice? Thank you!

My annoying pregnancy book mentions diarrhoea as well as constipation as possible delights of the fourth month. I am 14 weeks and it's been one or the other since 6 weeks (though have been on a lot of drugs too which haven't helped). I haven't had anything approaching normal for months, so unpleasant, I feel your pain!

Oh goodness. At least I haven't had to face the joy that is constipation as well.

It sounds as if the bowels can go one of two ways at this point then? Heaven forbid we should want to enjoy the "renewed energy" of the 2nd trimester. Hoping you feel better soon.

The constipation is worse I think. It was so bad I had to have an enema in hospital after everything else failed which was super-grim (was in hospital for hyperemesis, not just for constipation I hasten to add - that would be bad!!). Diarrhoea is horrible too but at least something is happening and generally it doesn't last as long. Hope your episode was short-lived!

Oh my word. That sounds horrific! You have my sympathy. The runs have been on & off for 3 days now. I'm away with work tomorrow so I will be crossing my fingers and legs that this week is better.

Oh dear poor you. Make sure you are drinking a lot in that case, you can get dehydrated quite quickly with diarrhoea. Here's hoping it eases for you soon. Are any of the diarrhoea remedies OK in pregnancy? Not sure but maybe worth checking. All the constipation stuff is OK, at least they say it is if it's bad enough so maybe the same applies.

I am 25+4 and had been feeling quite pleased that my 'system' was staying completely normal - until a few days ago when I have had really bad upset tummy! From my friends' experience it seems to be quite nomral in pregnancy. I have been drinking a lot more water than normal so I wonder if that's made things a bit, er, quicker!

Thanks Beans. I feel a bit more balanced today but still a bit like a washing machine iykwim. I think it's going to be chalked up to hormones/ body changes. Bleh!

Glad to hear it. I had my 25w MW appt this morning and mentioned it to her, and she said it would be the hormones. Pregnancy is so glamorous isn't it?! Wink

I've had "loose bowels" since the very beginning of my pregnancy. I'm now 29 weeks and it is still going strong. I think we should just be glad we aren't constipated which seems to be more common and, I would imagine, a lot more uncomfortable! Those of us in the loose bowels group just need to remember to take spray air freshener with us in case we need to go when out and about!
