Pain deep in right bottom cheek

This may not be pregnancy related but id be interested to know if any of you wise ladies out there have any ideas.
I'm 33 wks with DC1. For the last week I have suffered from a sharp stabbing pain within my right bottom cheek; if I bend my leg forwards and press on my bottom it feels near to the deeper bone of my pelvis. it hurts if I turn on it when standing or lean over when sitting.
I have been forced to rest over the middle of my pregnancy due to a car crash but have definitely started to do more over the past few weeks.
Have I just overdone it or could this be pregnancy-related? Any thoughts appreciated.

Might be sciatica - trapped nerve type pain?

EggsMichelle · 08/06/2012 21:11

Agree with littleweed, sounds like sciatica. I had this in the very early weeks, bloody painful! I found sitting on wheat bag and sitting cross legged help.

My sister had sciatica quite badly in her second pregnancy. Had to have crutches to hobble about in the end. I'd be getting off to doc/ mf to see if you can get a physio referral - you might be bumped up on top of your condition cos of the car accident...

On the babycentre site it says that sciatic pain is the most common diagnosis for what is actually pelvic girdle pain. On my phone so can't link but Google it and you should get a bit more info & see if you can ease it... Mention to your MW too, just in case.

I have this too sometimes and think it must be the position of the baby as on some days all I can do is hobble around like an old lady and then a few days later I'll be fine again.

It could also be your sacrum. After I has ds1 I had that exact pain dreadfully and it turned out to be my sacrum. Physio and time sorted it out, they said they didn't know whether it was carrying a big baby or the actual birth that was the culprit!

Btw get it checked out, a few simple exercises might give you some relief.

Thank you, everyone. I will give the mw a call after the weekend. Xx

Hi Mothpop, I had a similar problem in early pregnancy.
A sports massage friend of mine recommended putting a tennis ball on the floor, and then sitting on it (so with the ball under the buttock where the pain is) and then rolling around on it.
Does that make any sense? It looks quite silly (my husband said I looked like a dog with worms!) but it did sooth the pain quite a bit by massaging the muscle.
Hope that helps!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 09/06/2012 16:56

I had to do the tennis ball thing, works a treat, however silly!

Could be pelvic girdle pain
I'm only 14 weeks but already have it as only 9m between pregnancies.

Good to see a Physio who'll be able to differentiate
