Will they do an internal examination at my 6 week check if I had a section?

Morning!

Just up feeding baby and I've got myself into a tizz!!

We've got our 6 week check later, will they want to give me an internal examination if I had a section?

I had a traumatic time which ended in me being put to sleep and I reall don't think I can face anyone touching me yet!

I've also got an appointment with the consultant who delivered my baby - not got a clue who it was! And im sat here worrying everyone will want to examine me today!!

I've never had an internal at my 6 week check. As far as I know it's not part of it. All that happened to me was blood pressure, feel of my stomach and discussion on contraception.

McKayz · 08/06/2012 05:26

Both of mine have been like Frillys. No internals, just a chat really about how it's all going and answer any worries you have.

I had emsc under general anaesthetic too 12 week ago. At my 6 week check they didn't even check my wound. Or blood pressure. Or offer my contraception ....

Oh good thanks ladies! I've never even considered it until now but you know what its like when your mind starts going in the middle of the night!

Melliebobs did you have an appointment with the person who delivered your baby too?

I'm dreading it I really don't wanna go through it all and be reminded about how close I was to losing her, wish they'd just leave me alone to get on with it it's gonna really upset me

Another here with no internal, just a general chat really. I know what you mean about someone touching you, I dreaded even getting my stitches out.
I don't think they will make you talk about your traumatic time any more than you want to, if you do not feel ready yet, just tell them. Sometimes you need a bit of distance...Hope it goes ok.

Milly, I know how you feel. I shuddered whenever I passed the consultant who delivered my Dts in the hospital corridors during the weeks they were in hospital, and I remember at my 6.week check my GP trying to get me to book a smear in and just hating the idea.
Fortunately my GP was quite sympathetic and offered to do it herself rather than one of the nurses, although months down the line I don't feel the same way.
I also didn't see the consultant formally after being discharged, but a few weeks after we'd got settled at home I had a debrief with a midwive supervisor which was really valuable and answered a lot of my questions.

So sorry you had such an awful time.

No internal for me. He did check how my scar had healed though.

melliebobs · 08/06/2012 08:03

No mine was with the gp. Since being discharged from the mw I've had nothing to do with the hospital

PogoBob · 08/06/2012 08:10

I can understand how you feel, but I don't think you need to worry about this.

I didn't have an internal at my 6 week check and I had some serious internal tearing that had to be repaired in theatre after I delivered DD. I was lucky that the doctor that did the stitching did a great job so I had no issues.

AlpinePony · 08/06/2012 08:12

I had an elcs in Feb for my second son. No internal.

However I did have an internal after my emcs, perhaps because I did labour? Tbh I'm not sure it was necessary and I'm sure I could've refused. If it happened again I would refuse.

rookanga · 08/06/2012 08:12

They wanted to at mine, after a section. I just refused and said I couldnt see a point.

marshmallowpies · 08/06/2012 08:16

I have mine in a couple of weeks so this is reassuring- I do need a smear anyway so will be having that soon after I expect, but having DD's vaccinations at the same time as my check up so that's enough trauma for one appointment I think.

MillyStar · 08/06/2012 08:41

Thank you everyone, hopefully no one will ask but I'll just refuse, if anything is wrong up there they're not getting back up to fix it anyway so no point!!
