No bump :(

I'm 20+2 and I don't have a bump.
Alright I have this teeny tiny little thing that I know is a bump but that is it. not a proper thing. (starting to see why I didn't know I was pregnant - I now have scan pictures to prove it)

But after today I admit to be getting slightly worried about it.

Shouldn't it be an actual bump now?

Did anyone else not have a bump and can reassure me? (first DC)

Some babies lean towards the spine and it depends on your pelvis shape too. I have a retroverted uterus so no bump for ages and then one day it pops forward and is huge; it's quite disconcerting when it happens.

AceOfBase · 07/06/2012 16:57

Stop panicking :o you will be moaning about how huge you are soon enough. People bump differently IME. My first I started showing about 20 wks, second at around 16 and this time at around 8 Blush

MatriarchalDreams · 07/06/2012 17:07

I'm expecting my first baby and I didn't have a bump at 20 weeks. Can't really remember when I got one, I know by the time I started my antenatal classes at about 26 weeks I was looking pregnant but my bump is definitely the smallest of the six of us in the class (all due at around the same time) and in the last few weeks I've had people notice who hadn't previously - am now 35 weeks. I still look quite small but am measuring fine. So don't panic, just be pleased that hopefully you won't be as uncomfortable as other women at the same stage as you!

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 07/06/2012 17:10

Don't worry, it'll come!
With dc2&4 I didn't really show until after 6 months, then I was enooooormouse!

Rachel130690 · 07/06/2012 17:15

Hey I'm 27 + 3 days and I only got a very small bump when I was roughly 25/26 weeks. I felt the exact same and worried constantly about this. But I'm grateful I still fit my clothes and my auntie has had to buy a whole new wardrobe. You'll have one soon enough. Just be patient (easier said than done) you'll have a bump in no time.

emblosion · 07/06/2012 17:15

I was prob about 23 weeks before my bump really appeared, and it really did pop up overnight - a bit disconcerting!

Before that I just looked like I'd had too many pies - my waist was a lot thicker but that's it.

Try not to worry OP, everyone's different. I fretted loads about my lack of bump but I'm now 38 weeks and the size of a bloody house!

tiredteddy · 07/06/2012 17:18

With my first DS I didn't show until about 24/25 weeks everything was so much more to ed than now! DS2 I was showing at about 20 weeks and now I'm 8 weeks and starting to show already! I think my muscles are a lot more relaxed now Blush is it your first? I remember being desperate to look pregnant first time round! Try the maternity trousers that are over bump in style the will emphasise you lovely tummy and round out your shape more. The ones that are under bump or across make it looks smaller IMO.

underthevalley · 07/06/2012 17:54

Thanks. made me feel a little bit better.

Yeah first tired thanks for the tip about trousers

My friend just gave birth at 30 weeks and never had a bump, she never looked pg at all. It makes no difference to how well your baby's developing, it's just the way you're carrying.

melliebobs · 07/06/2012 18:47

My bump appeared around 22 weeks and all in all I didn't get very big. Feel I missed out a bit. I was the most unpregnant looking lady going.

AliceHurled · 07/06/2012 18:50

Is it to do with where the placenta is? I have a big bump at 22 weeks (well it feels big to me) but I have placenta posterior. So does that mean I bulge forwards more? (No idea, might be talking utter nonsense)

saschamiles · 07/06/2012 18:52

Only just 'popped' at 30 weeks.

hillyhilly · 07/06/2012 18:52

I always had bump envy as I didn't look visibly pregnant the entire way through. The only consolation is that life is a great deal more comfortable and easy without a huge bump and everything more or less pinged back into shape

Purplecatti · 08/06/2012 18:49

I'm 20+3 too and no bump at all. I am slightly thicker around the middle though but nobody else seems to notice.
My scan showed everything normal the scanning lady commented repeatedly on how low down the baby was. I guess it will move up in time.
Poor husband, he had a right panic attack in the waiting room. All the ladies waiting had very obvious bumps and I was sat there in my clinging size 8 skirt with the belt on the tightest loop. I did get a few funny looks in the waiting room actually, ended up brandishing my 'I'm pregnant' folder to prove I was in the right bit.
I'm sure I will pop in the near future and then everyone will comment on how massive I am. People don't seem to be happy unless they comment on a pregnant person's size.

Florin · 08/06/2012 19:13

It does seem to just pop out. I remember really moaning to dh about lack of bump one evening, dh said I would have one soon.I then had ligament pain all that evening then bang in the morning there was my bump. Dh enjoyed rubbing it in saying look I was right i said it would appear soon! I know how you feel I was desperate for one too to feel properly pregnant. Now 38+1 and looking forward to having baby and not having a bump!

twofurryones · 08/06/2012 20:12

Last time round I barely had a bump at 20 weeks even at about 6 months I just looked like I'd had a rather large dinner most of the time, by 7 months I'd popped.

This time round I've been the size of a small bungalow since about 10 weeks, think I preferred it last time WinkSmile

twofurryones · 08/06/2012 20:15

alicehurled I wondered that too but was posterior last time (small bump) and am anterior this time (big bump) so maybe not. Although I know that the real reason I'm bigger this time is because my abs have just totally given up trying.

AliceHurled · 08/06/2012 20:42

Yeh I think really it must be the lack of stomach muscles and pies Grin

twofurryones · 08/06/2012 21:16

Oh yes I should also have mentioned the pies Grin

bevelino · 08/06/2012 21:31

Congratulations on your pregnancy. If you are eating properly and your doctor/midwife have advised that you are fit and well there is no need for you to worry about the size of the bump, which is not a good indication for the size of the baby. My bff is 4 ft 10, had a minuscule bump but gave birth to a 10 pound bruiser, which she pushed out naturally, ouch!

BabylannShallFall · 08/06/2012 23:59

Hey, I didn't get a bump until about 6 months, but then it shot out at a rapid speed and eventually I ended up so huge people were calling me octomum. Don't worry about it until a doctor tells you to, they measure your stomach and will tell you if it's not growing fast enough or growing too fast :)

(in my own personal experience, getting a bump at such an alarming rate so "late" into the pregnancy led to a growth scan to check why I was so huge - too much curry and chocolate maybe Grin)

saschamiles · 09/06/2012 08:44

Have been so worried about my bump too - also a small baby on last growth scan. Kicking lots though :) . Have stepped up on eating and sleeping, slowed down at work and was delighted when DH returned from week in France to tell me yesterday that I looked like a proper little heffer! Definitely late bloomer

bonzo77 · 09/06/2012 08:56

My bump didn't really appear till about 26 weeks, and even when I went on mat leave at 36 weeks most of my clients didn't notice it.
