Position and kicks in late pregnancy

So I'm confused - again. Midwife says she THINKS baby's breech, but not quite sure. Not a massive deal as yet as I'm only 31 weeks, but my question is this...

I'm getting loads of not kicks but massive movements all over the front (though mostly above belly button), which I don't know what says about breech or not, but presumably says baby's currently back to back - surely if back was facing outward I wouldn't be feeling so many actions at the front from what must be limbs? So THEN my question is, what happens to baby's movements when baby is in the perfect, head down, facing backward position? Do you feel anything much at all, or are all the movements directed backwards?!

Hope that makes sense...

Most babies are breech at 31 weeks.

I actually delivered a breech baby and I couldn't tell anything from the kicks. The hard head under my ribs was more of a giveaway.

I'm 35 weeks and I've been told my baby is head down and in perfect position ready for birth! I'm feeling a lot of kicks to my right side and have a very large (must be a girl) bum under my ribs! i wouldn't worry abiut the baby's position until closer to 37 weeks x

My sis was told her baby was in the wrong postion when she needed to be head down - They had her setting chill packs on the baby's head to try to turn it over. It turned out in the end she was fine the whole time.....

Thanks ladies, that's reassuring, I'll not panic yet then. I'm also glad you can still feel kicks when they're in perfect position - I'd be terrified if I stopped feeling her!

sharklet, that's so rubbish! I did read recently that because of the amount of scans done these days palpating is become a 'lost art'...

I'm 37 weeks now and the baby has been head down for quite some time, since about 26 weeks. The dead give away for me is the hiccups in my lower half and the knees/feet always in my ribs. I'm not sure about back to back or not, I think she lays on her side. I've usually got, what I presume to be a bum on the left or right side.
