I am overweight at the moment was when I fell pregnant. I'm now 13 weeks and since I've stopped being sick all I've done is eat. I just don't want to eat much healthy food unfortunately.
I'm worried about the negative press and warnings about being overweight and pregnant. What do others think? Any good stories? Larger ladies avoiding the much warned about complications?

Similar position here and currently 31 weeks. So far I've been given extra tests like GTT and I've been shown to be healthy. I've only put on 1/2 stone so far due to first 3 months and having lost food mojo (now know what feeling full is).

My midwife is supportive but I've had an 'unhelpful' conversation with a consultant who was more interested in statistics and generalisations than in actually talking to me. My midwife has said breastfeeding will take off the baby weight and more (and she wasn't preachy about it).

I'm doing pregnancy yoga and trying to eat healthily. I actually feel more healthy now than usually do so I am really hoping that some of the good habits will go into the future with me. I am starting to get to a point where I am realising that some of my bad habits that led me to be overweight are due in part to a lack of self worth and trying to focus on being a mum as having a reason 'not to'. For example, walked past McDonalds (instead of going in) as I imagined my little boy inside me. Does that make sense? I'm not saying I'm perfect, as I am miles away from it, but i think i can see a future without the weight...

I've seen the weight loss forums on here and plan to join once baby is here. Fingers crossed.

Hi Silva :) I'm overweight too (technically obese - BMI 31.5) and I found this website very useful. You basically put in your weight and how many weeks pregnant you are and it gives you a weight gain range. Because of my BMI it advises no more than a 20lb weight gain in total as being overweight means you have plenty of stored body fat already.

I'm finding it useful because no one has said ANYTHING to me about weight or how much I should gain - they probably consider it to be a sensitive subject. In fact my booking midwife underestimated my weight by 9lbs when she converted it to kg - think she read the conversion chart wrong Hmm. I'm currently 23 weeks and have gained 12lbs which is only 2lbs over the guideline weight - it gives a week by week window. I find it useful as one week we ate out a lot and I was 4lbs over so made an effort to eat sensibly the following week, rather than using pregnancy as a pigout excuse :)

But maybe steer clear if you think you will get cross at yourself - I've been pretty laid back about it, just find it keeps me right. Pregnancy is tough enough without having weight gain guilt!

Good luck! Thanks

I actually have no idea what I weigh. I asked her not to tell me. I know my bmi was 31 and I'm planning on going back to Ww when I can after the birth but don't want to find out till then. It's depressing me knowing I'm overweight (read obese) but I think it would be worse knowing what I weigh. I've ordered some Pilates DVDs off anazon as someone said their good for toning after the birth.

In the first few weeks, I couldn't stomach anything except toast and chips too.
I'm 20 weeks and from around 14 weeks, I think, I've been able to eat better.
I try to eat salad, veg or fruit with or after every meal to help me stay full and go walking as often as I can. I've also got a couple of dvds which I've done a few times.

I agree with ignoring all those comments about eating for 2! Its how I ended up being overweight in the first place!

I do of course have some biscuits or crisps from time to time but being pregnant makes me very conscious of eating well and providing good quality nutrition for the baby. This time I'm not topping it up with big desserts every night.

Cheekychops try not to miss meals as it could make you feel unwell. If I don't eat much for dinner I end up feeling a bit dizzy and faint the next morning.

The eating for two concept is just not good. I was encouraged last week to eat whatever I want as now I 'have an excuse'. I wouldn't touch drink or cigs during pregnancy and I've so far suffered some pretty horrific headaches and hayfever without medication. It just annoys me that I really struggle to give my little baby the best possible start by not being able to stop eating!! It's depressing me a lot rite now :-(

So maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. The last few days I have been really craving fruit and veg and fatty stuff makes me feel sick. Yay - long may it continue!

Hi everyone, I've just had my booking in app, but due to PCOS & v irregular periods not too sure how far along I am! Midwife not keen on early scan. I have a BMI of 37 & have been told I can't go to the birthing unit etc. I lost a stone prior to this pregnancy. My last pregnancy (my DD is 3), was normal & I was ALOT thinner! I'm now starting to worry that this pregnancy is going to be terribly difficult due to my weight.
