How much bigger did your boobs get?

Always had reasonably sized boobs but before I got pregnant I lost about a stone and a half and they reduced a lot and I felt so much better about myself. Of course literally as soon as I was pregnant they went up again as expected. I will be 38 weeks pregnant tomorrow and just been for a nursing bra fitting. They have fitted me in a massive size (did fitting at bravissimo) they said I need plenty of space in there. Bra is hideous and comes up virtually to my neck so I won't be able to wear a majority of clothes. If I really do go to that size I really doubt I will be able to stick at breast feeding even though it is something I really wanted to do if I am that huge I will be so uncomfy and look so hideous. My milk has already come in (I leak at night) do you really think I will go up such a huge number of cup sizes? Or do some people not go up that much. At the moment I am tempted to get a 2nd opinion.

I dont think you can predict, everyone is different. Personally, my boobs were a b cup before, went to a c cup during breastfeeding, although if i was running late or missed a feed they felt hard and massive and more like a d, then when i stopped bf i bloody shrivelled down to an a cup!

comelywench · 06/06/2012 13:23

In my experience leaking does not mean your milk has come in. I was leaking towards the end of my pregnancy but blissfully unaware of what would occur when my milk did come in about 3 days after DS was born. I can't remember how many cup sizes I went up, but it was something like E to FF? I liked my feeding bras they were Freya and had a 1950's look, but were v supportive and comfy. I think low cut tops just aren't the easiest thing to pull off if you're well endowed and breast feeding. I just wore an ordinary bra as a one-off if I was going to a special occasion and needed a lower neckline. I think I wouldn't get a nursing bra till your milk has come in. It's safest to wait I feel! Mine hardly changed - I got wider (from 36 to 38) and went up a cup size towards the end of pg. Breastfeeding only lasted a couple of weeks and then they shrivelled!! At 14 weeks w dc2 am back to pre-pregnancy size. Have always been pretty flat chested and feel robbed!

ShowOfHands · 06/06/2012 13:28

You should be fitted for the size you are not the size they guess you might be later down the line.

With dd I went from a B to an E then back to a C after 3.4yrs of feeding.

This time I've gone from a C to a D.

Has made NO difference to bfing either time.

Your milk isn't in either. You'll see. Grin

I am starting to panic. I was an F before pregnancy. Gone up to a GG during pregnancy and they have said I will need a K! Not sure there are any more letters after that hence the panic. I don't want to be able to wear low cut tops however the bra is so high I honestly will be able to wear none of my clothes.
if you didn't get a nursing bra before birth how did u cope in first few days. I am seriously tempted to cancel my order and see what happens if I can manage for the first week without a specific nursing bra

I was an A before DS1 was born and right thru pregnancy - went up to a B for about a week. Only bf for 2 weeks.

With DS2 i put 4 stone on but was still only a B when he was born, stayed a B and mix fed for 16 weeks.

With DS3 i started as a B and went to a C for a month or so then back to a B, bf for 9 months.

Now i have the chest of a 9 year old boy Hmm

You don't need a nursing bra, you can always just wear your usual one but it is soooooo much easier with a nursing bra! Just remember to do the clip up and don't answer the door to the postman without checking you are covered up Blush

Chunkychicken · 06/06/2012 14:28

I was a 32DD before pg. Went up to a 34DD almost instantly (first symptom was massive, sore boobs!) and by the time I needed maternity clothes, I was a 34E. I started leaking at 20wks but that wasn't my milk, that was just colostrum and I still needed the 34G cup nursing bra for when my milk came in. However, that didn't last long - I think by a couple of wks later, I was in a 34E again & pretty much stayed that way until I stopped breastfeeding, when they shrunk back to a 32D/DD (I almost lost a fair bit of weight at the same time, due to appendicitus, so the shrinkage was probably more extreme).

You will need a bigger bra for when your milk comes in, but its unlikely to be for long.

Thanks ladies you have given me some hope that they wont necessarily grow to the size of the Himalayas! Think I will keep the one larger bra then worry about it a few weeks after birth when hopefully they have settled down a bit.

Mine went bigger cup size for about 3 days then back to normal

caerlaverock · 06/06/2012 14:38

mine when up to J, i didn't even know j existed. they were like 2 heads. thankfully they went back down to a relatively modest dd after.

comelywench · 06/06/2012 15:03

I just used a normal bra till my milk came in and slipped the strap off my shoulder. Was a bit fiddly, but was only for a few days and i wasn't going anywhere so didn't have to worry about the public getting an eyeful!! Don't worry about it tho, you'll shrink down after you stop feeding so any mountainousness will recede in time Wink

BartletForAmerica · 06/06/2012 15:05

I was a 30D before getting pregnant. I went up a few sizes until after delivery and breastfeeding when I was in a 32GG.

EmpireBiscuit · 06/06/2012 15:25

Jings - I am only 7+5 and have already went from a 32F to a 34G :( I hope they tail off soon....

Mikyahrose · 06/06/2012 16:39

I'm 25+1 and havent noticed any change in size yet - my current bra is a 30HH, i'm dreading where they could go after baby. My plan is to breastfeed for a good few months at least. I think i'll hold off for as long as possible before buying a new bra.

Will my boobs stay bigger for as long as i'm feeding or just for the first few days after birth?

comelywench · 07/06/2012 10:44

I think they're at their most massive when the milks comes in, but they'll still be pretty "ample" when your little one's due a feed. Post feed they'll be much smaller.
You don't want to know what happens when you stop feeding Biscuit

EmilyD2012 · 07/06/2012 10:49

I went from an E to a FF and can't wait for them to deflate!

popsnsqeeze · 07/06/2012 11:14

With dd1 I went from an aa to a d! The. Went down to a b or c when I stopped feeding. Up again to a d with dd2

ItsMyLastOne · 07/06/2012 12:20

I went up 5 or 6 cup sizes during pregnancy, then another one cup size when milk came in. For me my boobs weren't that much bigger, just a very different shape and pretty solid!

Mikyahrose · 07/06/2012 15:26

not many things are bothering me too much about being pg, i'm happily getting bigger and heavier and am not too fussed about getting stretch marks (luckily none are showing yet, so i may not get any?)

But, I have good boobs - as big as they are, they're not saggy or painful. I just really hope they stay good after baby and feeding too....

Rowanhart · 09/06/2012 21:47

I'm 17 weeks and already gone up four sizes. I was pretty big to start off with and now I'm 36G I have a feeling I'll be in a GG cup shortly.

I'm quite small framed and have an old neck and shoulder injury and am really hurting from weight. Having fortnightly deep massages and trips to chiropractor to try and keep on top of it, but already signs of sciatica and had to have acupuncture for muscle spasms.

I hate my boobs :-(

I went from a 34D to a 34G during the first 12weeks but haven't really changed since (now 32w). Used to work as a bra fitter and advised women to get a nursing bra a couple of weeks before due date on a loose hook so it could be tightened after delivery and about a cup size bigger to allow room for milk. I'm already wearing nursing bras as no where could find me non-wired 34G that didn't cut into my armpits or come up to my chin. Think I'll wait and see if I change much before EDD, if not I'll see how I get on afterwards and then go shopping if I have to. Was expecting my back size to go up during pregnancy but it hasn't. Maybe because I'm tall and bump seems fairly low. Good luck x

donotiron · 10/06/2012 11:00

I think everyone is different. There are definitely changes to the size of your breasts when you start breastfeeding, but it varies from person to person. I have always been quite small in the chest department (dammit!) and was looking forward to having something to show off for a change. Mine did get bigger for a while, but not much. They felt bigger than they were, probably because it felt as though someone had nailed two bags of cement to my chest. But one thing I would say is that once breastfeeding was well established, my breasts settled down considerably in both size and texture. There are times when the milk supply suddenly increases in response to your baby's needs, but this soon adjusts itself. I don't believe anyone can tell you what size you're going to be before it happens. And even if you do grow into that bra you've been fitted for, I don't think you'll need it for long, even if you breastfeed for 3 years like I did :o

WitchOfEndor · 10/06/2012 11:06

I was a 32D before I was pregnant, when my milk came in I was a 34H for the first few months (I felt like Jordan, especially first think in the morning!) but after two years I'm about 34D/E.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 10/06/2012 13:18

I would get one cheap bra in a couple of cup sizes up from what you are now. This will see you through the engorgement stage when your biobs will be like footballs and will leak everytime you feed or the baby cries (or you touch them or get in the shower) They do go down quite quickly if baby is feeding so it generally only lasts a few days and then you will settle back into your normal pregnancy size again
