Has anyone else found that maternity jeans are sized generously?

I'm looking for under-the-bump maternity jeans. Any that I've found (Next, New Look, Jojo Maman Bebe), I've tried on a size 8 and they've all been far too big. Even just looking at them they look more like a 10-12, and I had the same problem with shorts (for holidays). I'm slim but by no means tiny, usually a size 8-10. Obviously clothes need to be roomier to accomodate a bump, but I don't see why jeans need to be bigger in the hips, bum, and thighs. I know women (myself included) often put a bit of weight on all over, but surely in that case you go up a size?

Has anyone else found this? Or can anyone recommend somewhere else I can look? H&M don't seem to have under-the-bump, Topshop have changed the style and the reviews say the bump band is too tight. I only have one pair of jeans from my last pregnancy that fits, and I need more!

I think they're allowing room for pregnancy weight gain and trying not to upset vain mothers who would never buy jeans a size bigger.
Some women do tend to put on a lot of weight on their bum and thighs during pregnancy (apparently they are storing fat for breastfeeding).

I did wonder if there was an element of vanity sizing to it. And I'm sure I will put on weight all over by the end of pregnancy, but I need something to wear now Grin And what about the lucky beeatches women who don't put weight on their bum and thighs?

Earnest, I'd suggest that you go to H&M. Online they only offer the over-bump jeans (which always make me feel like Obelix) but in store they also have have underbump straight leg chinos (available in blue, red, white, black I think) which were pretty nice and the blue ones were pretty close to jeans in feel though not actually denim. (sorry if that description is rubbish!). Anyway, H&M seem to have normal sizing in their maternity clothes (as in I am normally a size 14 trousers and I was a size 14 maternity trousers there). I was a size 8 trousers in Mamas and Papas which made me laugh and did make me wonder what folk who are genuinely size 8 are supposed to do.

Yes, they build in weight - I think they expect you to gain around your thighs as well as middle? I had to go down a size (in Next & Dorothy Perkins).

Thanks londonlivvy, I had looked at H&M online and in some branches but often they don't have the full range in-store. I might need to take a trip to the nice big branch in Regent Street. Actually I've found that a lot of the high street shops' maternity ranges are often under-represented in the stores. Online they have lots but in-store they only have a smaller range and/or the selection of sizes is rubbish.

You found this, especially with my last 2 pregnancies, was forever hiking the bloody things up. I found a pair I liked in gap but mainly I just wore dresses.

I've got Topshop ones (Leigh, the skinny jeans) and the demi-band isn't tight, as per the reviews. In fact I'm always hiking them up - I'm hoping this means they will last me all the way until birth!

Generally I have found maternity clothes pretty roomy, I presumed to add a bit of "pregnancy arse" into the equation.

I think maternity clothing per sae is cut bigger. I am a size 12 normally and 14 in jeans, but am currently in 8 - 10 tops and 12 jeans from mamas and papas lol.

They are all so different even within the same shop. I bought all mine 2nd hand on ebay because I couldn't find any I liked new. Having bought one gorgeous pair of Dorothy Perkins ones that fit like a glove in a 10, I bought another DP size 10 pair which were huge.

It's very hit and miss

I definitely think this is the case. I'm usually a 14 and fitted easily into the Topshop Leigh's in a 12. In fact all stores were the same.

I found the Leigh's to be the best maternity jeans by far.
