I'm so sorry you're going through this. If it will reassure you, I can think of three women in my (small) circle of friends who have all had more than two miscarriages in a row and gone on to have healthy babies, so of course it's more than possible. How is your partner reacting?

mousebacon · 05/06/2012 16:56

Yes. I had 2 mc in a row and am now due to have my baby on Friday - it will happen for you.

First of all, I know it's horrific seeing blood but there may be an innocent explanation for it at this early stage - MN is full of success stories. Can you organise a scan for later in the week?

Try to rest, try to stay calm and remember that's it's entirely natural to snap at the people you are closest too in times of stress.

If this is a MC it might be worth giving your body a rest for a couple of months before you try again - that's what the docs recommended for me and it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Wishing you lots and lots of luck and some unmumsnetty ((hugs))

Hello Roxy, I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's heartbreaking to have a miscarriage. I have a son of almost four. I then had an ectopic pregnancy in 2010, which involved removal of my left tube, followed by two miscarriages last year. They were early misccarriages, but devastating nonetheless. I am happy to say that I'm now 26 weeks pregnant with another boy and everything is going well. I know how hard it is, but don't give up hope. It may be a good idea to see your GP, just to rule out any possible causes for repeated miscarriages. At least you would feel more in control of the situation and this could ease the tension in your relationship. Trying to conceive is often seen as the fun part, when in fact it can be the most stressful thing in the world.

Take care of yourself.

So sorry for what you are going through - it is such a tough time. The nhs won't do anything till you have had 3 in a row which is horrible. For me, I had one missed miscarriage (found out at 9.5 weeks) and then a chemical pregnancy (over at 4.5 weeks). Now I am 31 weeks and things seem to be going well but this time I self medicated with baby aspirin and natural progesterone. (Not sure if that helped or not.) The fact that you have already had one child hopefully means it is just 'bad luck' rather than anything more sinister as your body obviously can carry a baby to term. (By bad luck I mean chromosomal problems.)

Sorry you are finding it difficult with your partner too. I found that once we had a good chat and realised that we were both dealing with it in different ways rather than him not caring as I felt, We came even closer as most other people don't understand what we have gone through to get this far.

As monal said - it does happen a lot and I made a point of telling people about my miscariages and lots of people opened up that they had had them too. People just keep quiet about them.

There is a miscarriage/pregnancy loss board which was very helpful to me when I was going through my miscarriages and the scary bit of trying to get pregnant again and stay pregnant.

I had two in 2010, no previous DC and it was heartbreaking. Now 24 weeks with our first and all looking good. Sorry to hear your DP is taking it badly, I hope you can get through this but he should be supporting you not making it harder.

Staverton · 05/06/2012 17:15

KingstonRugbyMum · 05/06/2012 17:42

I had two DS's then two MC and now have a very lovely 2 yo DS3. xxx

sunshinesue · 05/06/2012 18:06

I've had 2 mc in a row, am now 14 weeks, there is still a long way to go but it's looking good and I'm cautiously optimistic. 2mc in a row is more likely to be bad luck than due to an underlying cause which is why the nhs (and some private consultants) won't investigate until 3 in a row. I can't remember the exact odds but after 2 mc the chances of your next pregnancy being sucessful are about 72-75% (compared to approx 80% if you've never had a mc), I think the odds may be better again for you as you've already had one dc so definately can carry to term.

When I was 5 + weeks with this pregnancy I had a LOT of bleeding, bright red, clots and cramps. I was 100% convinced it was the end but a scan at 5w6days showed a tiny baby plus heartbeat. I'm not going to tell you your bleeding is nothing, because we know all too well the worst can happen but don't give up hope, it's certainly not over yet. good luck xx

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 05/06/2012 18:26

Hi, it is awful but my Ds is 12 weeks and he was born after two miscarriages, 10 weeks and 5 weeks, in fact he was conceived two months after my 5 week one after 6 months of nothing. Don't lose hope :)

abbypumpkin · 05/06/2012 18:38

I had a mc then healthy dc (about to turn 3) then two more mc and am now 32 weeks with dc2,

susiegrapevine · 05/06/2012 19:10

Hey. Not had a mc myself but friend at work had 4 mc's in a row and had just about given up hope! Plus a lot of tension and near divorce with her dh over it! Then she thought she would just give it a rest and not try for at least a year and hopefully settle the tension between her and dh and acidentally got pregnant! And now has a bouncing baby boy! Good luck! Hope you are ok.

ginmakesitallok · 05/06/2012 19:15

I had DD1, then had 2 MCs in a row before having DD2. The second mc was awful - and we didn't really TTC after that - DD2 was a very lucky and very welcome accident. I remember the MW in the EPU saying that they often see women twice but rarely a third. Be kind to yourselfxx

Kelbells · 05/06/2012 20:59

Roxy I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through this, it's a heartbreaking time and I'm sure it must be dominating your relationship and your thoughts at the moment.

I'm so pleased that there are so many positive stories for you to see and I would like to add to those. I had a missed mc in November last year at 9 weeks and then an early mc at 5 weeks on Christmas day. I wondered if I would ever be able to have a child whilst all those around me (both sil and close colleagues) fell pregnant with seemingly straightforward pregnancies.

The good news is that I fell pregnant at the end of January and, despite a lot of bleeding and a dodgy cervix, am now 21 weeks pregnant with a little boy playing drums in my belly.

Don't lose heart, you've done it before and you'll do it again. Your body has realised those little babies weren't going to make it, but the odds are in your favour for the future. Use each other to lean on during this horribly tough time and try to spend time focusing on other things if you can so that it doesn't define your relationship. Xx

Kelbells · 05/06/2012 21:06

I'm sorry - I misread Blush and just read again that you're still bleeding at 5 weeks! I also bled with cramping from 5 weeks with this pregnancy (21weeks) if you haven't already, contact your EPU tomorrow and explain the situation. They should be able to do HCG tests 2 days apart and early us when appropriate, it hugely helped to put my mind at rest after my previous mc's and I felt that at least I could prepare myself for the worst if it was bad news... I hope that's not teaching you to suck eggs and I will be thinking of you and hoping you have good news!!!!!

SillyCalamari · 05/06/2012 21:29

I'm so sorry, i understand what you're going through. I have had 3, maybe 4 missed miscarriages over the past 2 years, the last one tested positive for Down's. On turning 40 I was running out of hope and energy, and just about when we were on our last attempt we managed to have a pregnancy that looks like it might just be hanging on in there. I'm now 27 weeks and so far so good, except for the continuous anxiety before the movements started.
One miscarriage is unlucky but, as many of us know too well, unfortunately is very common. Two miscarriages is really, really unlucky and three is really, really, really unlucky - but it can just be about bad luck.
Sending all those out there ttc after miscarriage a cyberhug and lots of positive vibes for the future... hang on in there.
