I've decided I am definitely going to do this. I think if nothing else, it will relax me and take some of the fear away and fear is a large part of pain.
My question is, to any women that have done this before, is when I should do the course. There's a woman who is meant to be brilliant in london but the first one I can go to is end of July as am away lots of weekends between now and then. I'll be about 30 weeks. Is that too late to really absorb all the techniques? Mates who have done it said I should be doing it now (23 weeks).
Thanks

Hi, I didn't start til about 32 weeks and couldn't finish the course as had to be induced early, but it still worked wonderfully for me, so go with the best practitioner you can. Yes earlier is better but sometimes it can't be helped!

My sister is using CD's and finding them great - her BP has come away done if nothing else! :) Was planning to get them but I'm getting a section - but may still get them for the general chill out benefit! :)

I couldn't recommend hypnobirth highly enough I decided to take a course quite late on and spent a bit of time doing research as I was also slightly apprehensive at the time and the OH wasn't entirely convinced (he is now). I started a 6 week course with Sophie at around 30 weeks ( I know it was quite late) and she gave me a discount for being with the NCT and charged me the same for coming to our home as she would for a group.

She also helped me make the decision to try a Home Birth (along with an amazing NCT teacher) in fact she also lent me her pool.

I had a very pleasant experience 9-5pm had harder days in the office, the midwifes didn't even get out the gas and air. They were both very respectful, one had more experience of hypnobirthing mothers than the other and so only tried to tell me to push once - there is no pushing by the way....

I found the breathing most beneficial and a it is all about your state of mind.

You could try Sophie www.calmbirthcalmbaby.com/
she might even know someone near you

or there is this site if you are out of London for regional teachers?

www.hypnobirthing.com/england.htm

we moved out of London and so i had a refresher over 3 hours with a really nice woman as I'm due in a week or so. Call someone local to you and have a chat - they will probably try and accommodate you somehow.

Good luck its so worth it!

Thanks Angelico and Emski. The place I was recommended was this - www.thehypnobirthingcentre.co.uk/ - but yours sounds brilliant too.
In fact, yours sounds like an ideal experience! Well, if there is even a teeny chance hypnobirthing can do the same for me, I'm in!
I'll be doing it at 30 weeks too. Oh, and I'm in London so I'll check out Sophie too.
Thanks, and good luck for number 2!

You could try Helen Redfern - she works in South London and is a Certified Practitioner of HypnoBirthing, the Mongan Method i.e. the original version.

You can find her here: HypnoBirthing South London

As far as I know the hypnobirthing centre do not offer the full hypnobirthing course so make sure you know what you're missing out.

I used HypnoBirthing for both my births - it took me from petrified to confident of a great experience.

Good luck!
