Stuff you never bought or bought and never used

Thought it might be handy to put on here all those things you bought when pregnant / with new baby but never once used or stuff that you never bought (even though bloody money grabbing shops convinced you you should) and never missed.

For example, I never owned a baby bath. I simply put three inches of water in the big bath and dunked DD in. Or, even better, she came in with me

I also never bought a child sized wardrobe. DD has a big chest of drawers and a bookshelf. I cannot be chewed hanging bloody sleepsuits.

I was bought numerous pairs of baby shoes. Oh my word. I feel sorry for those shoes as DD is barefoot or in just socks or tights religiously. She'll get shoes when she's cruising.

Anyone else? (thought it might be handy for PG ladies as to what not to buy, hence why it's here)

Haven't read the whole thread. DD was very prem and I didn't have a lot of the stuff I maybe would have bought had I had longer to think about it Grin
I did use a baby bath that someone gave us, because we only had a shower at the time, so I used to put it in the base of the shower, fill it and use it then.

Was given loads of socks too, but couldn't keep them on her - I have bought some this time around, because she has chosen baby's going home from hosp outfit and it doesn't have feet in it Grin

Never used a 'baby box' that had all the toiletries and stuff in. Was more hassle to keep it stocked, find it and use it, rather than just grab the nappy and do!

Dummies! 6 of them. Breast pads..they were useless, had to just hold a towel to them in the end Grin

towel (they do a plain one too I think, but not a great picture to show what it does.

Angelico - it was a gift but I've seen something similar in John Lewis and Debenhams. Called Cuddledry. Might get it cheaper on amazon or similar!

Re toys - we've got lots of bits and bobs here at home but have just joined a toy library as a way of keeping interest with new toys, seeing what DD likes/isn't bothered by and if she REALLY likes something, I can go and buy it for her. Like try before you buy!!

Now we did use the baby bath but only the Ikea one - straight sides - and only once she was 6 months and could sit up. Until then she went in with dp which gave her her love of deep warm baths.

Be prepared to get the travel system wrong - buy it on eBay so you can sell it again when you need to without much loss. It's only once you start using it in anger that you work out what actually works for you.

Friends will offer things and certainly consider accepting - we got a changing table with baskets for clothes, and a glider rocking chair from one set, both of which would have cost me a fortune.

We do use a baby monitor - weird house with temperature fluctuations in dif rooms and now the arrival of 2 new cats means baby's room door is now firmly shut.

I wish I had taken the time to research greener and non toxic products before baby was born. We've ended up chucking a load of Johnsons products and other items which we were not happy to use on DD once we found out what was in them. I also wish we had spent a bit more money on organic bedding and clothes especially pjs. We're now gradually replacing all those things, even those that might have lasted us a bit longer.
