By gnats?!
I'm usually quite prone to being bitten but I am absolutely covered in bites after being outside at the weekend!
I wonder if it's because I'm pumping more blood around and the little blighters can sense it?

Take a B12 supplement or Garlic they hate the smell of it in your sweat and on your skin and will leave you alone

blondiep14 · 27/06/2012 19:48

Ooh, good tip WeeDot. Thanks

I got eaten alive on holiday. I wasn't sure how much B12 could safely be taken in pregnancy on top of normal pregnancy vitamins & didn't sort myself out pre-hol. A citronella based repellent worked after the day 1 feeding frenzy.

HelenHen · 13/07/2012 14:41

A few weeks ago I got bitten when it was really hot (for about 3 days lol). I went outside for two minutes to cool down and got bit on the foot... it swelled up and got infected. I had to call in sick for a day cos I couldn't walk on it. Doc prescribed antibiotics and said he'd seen an unusually high number of infected bites that week. Apparently they LOVE pregnant women Sad . I was going to bed last night and DH caught a mosquito about to get into my side of the bed Shock . That would NOT have ended well!

princelypurpleparrot · 13/07/2012 14:42

I get bitten to buggery pg or not. I'm afraid b12 or garlic has never helped, sorry Sad

HelenHen · 13/07/2012 14:46

I'm usually really bad too princelypurpleparrot. Have you tried jungle formula? I brought it to Mexico last year and didn't get bitten ONCE til we ran out and I had to buy some other stuff and then got bitten loads. It's brilliant - and CAN be used during pregnancy (I asked... cos I presumed I couldn't use anything). Spray it outside though cos it stinks.

littlemissbroody26 · 13/07/2012 15:03

My legs hgav about 50 bites on them :( they are really bad in sweden but i have never been so badly bitten.

I was a bit worried that it wasnt safe to use mozzie spray when im pregnant, does anyone know?

HelenHen · 13/07/2012 15:04

See my post above littlemissbroody.

Unless it says 'not to be used during pregnancy', it's fine apparently.

littlemissbroody26 · 13/07/2012 15:07

Thanks helen :) I love going out in the forrest here and its mushroom picking season, I read that it is more common for people with type o blood.. tastier than other types for them maybe.... unfortunatly i have type o blood.

HelenHen · 13/07/2012 15:18

I'm A+ and I get eaten alive. One holiday to Italy, it was like I had chicken pox Sad . I've tried all the stuff that's supposed to repel them and absolutely nothing works for me... except for jungle formula... and I swear to god I don't work for them Grin although I guess it was only that ten days or so in Mexico that I've actually used it... maybe it was a coincidence and all the mossies were on holiday? Grin

littlemissbroody26 · 13/07/2012 15:21

it's definatly worth a try!

the mistake i made was i wore leggins and thought they would be prtection enough but they bit through the bloody leggings!

it was only dr google who said the o blood thing and hes not always correct hehe

HelenHen · 13/07/2012 15:25

Oh don't trust leggings... we went for a walk in a forest last week and I was wearing leggings. I think something got in there cos, when I took them off later, something bit me then a couple of times at the back of my leg. Thankfully this one didn't get infected Grin .

Clarella · 13/07/2012 18:46

Prob all the rain, bet we get plagues in late summer! There's a face or body cream by Avon that was found to be exceptionally good at keeping them away (wasn't meant to just so happened) so prob ok in preg - was supposed to be so good the military invested in it! They sell it in various shops around keilder water in northumberland but afraid can.remember what its called except by avon!

Clarella · 13/07/2012 18:47

Dr Google says its called "skin so soft"

Clarella · 13/07/2012 18:50

.... though "which" says its Bollocks.... but you could try!

whatsoever · 13/07/2012 20:59

I've used Skin So Soft before, I thought it worked ok but I saw a sciencey review of it that said it only put the little buggers off for 11 minutes after you apply it!

Ponyclubmum · 13/07/2012 21:27

I never used to get bitten until I moved to the village we live in now. It's absolutely swarming with midges here, and for some reason they love me.

I don't remember getting bitten more than usual when I was pregnant with DS(probably because of the time of year I was pregnant), but now I'm 32 weeks pregnant with DC2 I get bitten several times if I just nip out to the bin. And for some reason I'm having a really bad reaction to the bites - they swell up massively and are painful for days.

My friend has given me a bottle of Skin So Soft body oil spray to try, she says it works for her but it sounds too good to be true!

I eat tons of garlic and it makes no difference. DH says I should eat marmite, but to be honest I'd rather get bitten than eat that shit.
