Underactive thyroid in pregnancy - anyone else???

My blood tests came back that I have an underactive thyroid, the same result came back on repeat and I am having thryoid function blood tests tomorrow.

I have read up abit on the symptoms of this and would have: feeling cold, depression/ tiredness/anxiety (sometimes), muscle cramps, dry skin, premenstrual problems (pre pg).

Some of the info out there about potential negative effects on baby is very scary (stillbirth is mentioned) and I'm trying not to worry too much as I am a real worrier and so far the baby has been thriving (i'm 34 weeks).

Has anyone else had this condition diagnosed in pregnancy and was it OK???

I had this condition before pregancy. My care in pregnancy has only been different in that I was offered a scan at 10 weeks in case of mmc, and regular tsh blood tests.

The important thing now that you know is for you to get on thyroxine, which acts as an exact replacement for what your body is missing. As far as I am aware, as long as you are treated for the deficency and your levels are monitored, then your pregnancy should be as healthy as anyone elses.

Obviously you will be concerned at the time between whenever your thyroid stopped functioning effectively and when you got diagnosed. I don't know what affect this will have either, but the fact that your baby has been thriving all this time is a good sign.

Sorry that I don't know more about it, hopefully someone who does will be able to answer your questions. Wish I could put your mind completely at rest, but it is a good thing that you'll be able to get treatment now.
