Any experts on measles/rubella?

My DD has come up in a flat red rash, which disappears with the glass test. Looking things up, it could be heat rash, measles or German measles/rubella.

DD has had all her MMR jabs (she's 2yo) & I remember having my rubella jab at 11 & was immune during my DD's pg. However, I'm now 15+1wks pg and although would imagine I am still immune (especially as I had rubella as a toddler), I'm a bit concerned.

Until I can speak to my MW &/or GP, any MN-ers who can reassure me please?

TIA

Disclaimer: i am not an expert! Given the weather recently isn't more likely to be heat rash? ESP as your daughter has been immunised. Does she have any more symptoms/ is she unwell?

I thought it'd be heat rash too, but its spreading, despite attempts to cool her down. She also has quite a spotty nose (although that's hardly unusual for a toddler, & more so for my DD!!). Otherwise she seems very well.

I've phoned the GP & waiting a call-back from a Dr, and figure that its unlikely to be a risk but still... Thanks though!!

Not spotty - SNOTTY nose!!! The spots are all over the trunk... :)

Well I hope she's ok, I'm sure the doctor will fit you in ASAP. One more thing to worry about eh?

Chunkychicken · 29/05/2012 17:56

Indeed!!! Got the call back, have an appt tomorrow, but they said it was very unlikely, as we're both immune & no recent cases etc but they need to see the rash to diagnose it. It'll probably be one of those random 'viral rashes' all toddlers seem to get :)

DS had rubella and this is how it typically proceeds:

  • a very slight fever (37.5 C or so) two days before the rash
  • red behind the ears around the same time
  • red forehead right before the rash appears
  • rash quickly covers the whole trunk and disappears within a day or so

All very mild and easy to miss. I probably would have missed it if not for the fact that DS was only 4 months old and I was worried about the rash that came after "red behind the ears" and slight fever.

"Spots are all over the trunk"

Very unlikely that this is heat rash, which would happen over a certain area, not the entire trunk.

Thanks Cote, I didn't notice any ear or forehead redness, and a fever may not have been obvious in the warm weather, especially as DD has not seemed to be poorly at all. Maybe its nothing... Hmm

Rash seems to be fading a bit now too...Confused
