What can you lovely ladies tell me about insect repellant? Basically what is safe to use in 1st trimester? I read somewhere pregnant woman are more attractive to insects but I'm sure I remember reading somewhere to avoid insect repellant. I'm off on holiday next week & normally put some on at night and a plug in for the bedroom.
Also, sorry another question, if I'm not allowed repellant is the stuff you use to soothe a bite ok? Thanks

I'm not sure of the rules re repellant, but Avon do a range called skin so soft which isn't marketed as being insect repellant but works amazingly.

I used some mossie repellent at the weekend, it was a French brand and I can't remember the name but was labelled as being safe for young children and pregnant women.

Fab I'll have a look. I have some stuff in house called jungle formula and that doesn't mention anything about pregnancy!

I think jungle formual has DEET and that is the big no no if you're pregnant. Look on the list of ingredients!

Hi, I use Lemongrass extract, it is natural, a bit oily and smelly but it works as long as you are not going to tropical places... a drop on the ankles, behind the knees, on the elbows when the sun goes down, on each corner of the bed directly on the sheets, I would add a net over the bed at night time.
Enjoy your hols.

Hiya,
I went to Thailand during my first trimester and read online not to use anything with over a certain percentage of deet, if i remember rightly it was 30%. You are also best to avoid sprays so that you don't inhale anything. If you check on the packaging it should tell you if it is unsafe when pregnant. I used Mossie Milk when i went away (20% deet), it is a roll on and you only need a tiny amount of coverage for it to work. I never got bit once. You can order it online or get Boots to order it in for you. I also checked with the Boots pharmasist when buying it and he said it was safe but not to use Jungle as the deet concentration is too high. Think it's about 50% in the tropical formula.
The natural products like lemongrass and citronella are brilliant, however they didn't cut it against the tough Thai mossies, so it really depends where you are going and if the mossies carry any horrid illnesses or just leave a nasty bite.
Hope that helps. Enjoy your holidays.

if you go for the avon (i sell it and it does work as an insect repellant) it is the skin so soft dry oil spray that you want, and only the green/blue one, not the pink! the pink does not have the ingredients to chase the beasties away
