Hi i was PicklesisScared and I'm nearly six months pregnant single and living in a town where I have no real friends apart from my dog. My dilemma is that I really want to go and see what to expect when your expecting, but have no one to go with. Am I sad to go alone this evening?

I go to the cinema by myself! Choose your own seat, grab a popcorn and relax. It's not like cinemas are chatty places anyway. Have fun! Smile

Lora1982 · 26/05/2012 12:01

The only sad bit is your choice of film :-D I WANT TO GO WITH YOU THO!!!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 26/05/2012 12:07

No, of course not!! Lots of people do things on their own for a variety of reasons. I have to ask though, what is keeping you in that town and why are you finding it so hard to meet people? If it's a nice enough place, that will all change once you have the baby :)

Unfortunately my job keeps me here until my maternity Sad

I love going to the cinema by myself and, when new in town, used to do it once a week on my home from work and found it wonderfully absorbing and relaxing. I'd often see a matinee as part of a Saturday in town too and, even now that I have film-going companions, would definitely go to see a film becuase I wanted to see that film, regardless of whether anyone else I knew wanted to see it.

Film-watching is an individual experience that people can choose to turn into a social event by talking before or after, or not.

ItsMyLastOne · 26/05/2012 14:02

Going to a film on your own seems fine to me. It's not like you'd be chatting to anyone even if someone was with you so it makes no difference if you're on your own.

Kelbells · 26/05/2012 14:12

Go, go, go!! I too am living on my own, in a town where I know noone, with my dogs.... My other half has moved up to London to earn better money and I can't join him til maternity..... And I will be going to see it... With bells on!! I always think its very indulgent to head to the cinema on your own, stock up on ice cream, popcorn and a selfish choice of film.... After all.... We won't be able to do it for much longer Grin

No way, going to the cinema on your own is fine :o I have rubbish taste in films, so used to do it all the time.

Enjoy! :)

Antidote · 26/05/2012 14:24

I am very very envious. It is a long time since I went to the cinema by myself. It used to be one of my favourite things.

I live not having to share my popcorn, and not having to discuss the film afterwards.

Bliss

Going by yourself is awesome Grin Other people just come along and chat and annoy you!

PrimaBallerina · 26/05/2012 15:53

Lovely idea - definitely go!

I remember your thread. Well done for being so strong.

Pickles77 · 26/05/2012 18:11

I prefer to go alone! Lot's of people do I think.

RockChick1984 · 27/05/2012 07:28

How was the film pickles ?

milk · 27/05/2012 07:38

How was it?

Pickles77 · 27/05/2012 10:11

It was good, not as good as I expected. Funny but had some really emotional parts. I think it is a must see if your expecting, cheered me up ! But white linen trousers and choccy ice cream don't mix !!!

Glad you enjoyed it.

For the complete mumsnet experience you can now start a thread in good housekeeping asking how to get chocolate stains out of trousers!

MistyRocks · 27/05/2012 11:08

oh bless OP i couldn't read your post and not reply :(

its a shame you don't know anyone where you live, as its good to have friends around you when you are pregnant, and after baby arrives too. especially as you are single. have you tried ...netmums, they have a meet a mum board. and you could also try the mumsnet local page for your area, although they tend to be a bit quiet but its worth a go.

and keep posting here too, its great :) x

Pickles77 · 27/05/2012 11:10

Hahaaaa yes I think so- vanish at the ready. Oooo might try that but isn't it a bit like going to the 'dark side' :) Grin
