Had a medium burger last night, sick this morning, am I being daft?

I had a burger last night, out. Did not really pay attention to it or ask for it to be well done as I have in the past. Was sick once this morning, now feel fine again. I am now in a panic I have done something stupid, am 16 weeks with DC1 after 2 MCs so am probably a bit more anxious than I need to be.
Should I do anything? Call the midwife? Can they do anything anyway if its listeria or something that can harm the baby? Or do I just need to take a chill pill? Thanks

Oh I know the feeling... went to a BBQ a few weeks ago (when I was 16 wks) and threw up in the night after eating 2 burgers and 3 sausages - such a piggy!! like you I panicked and thought the worst but when I got up in the morning I felt absolutely fine. Have had no other illness as a result since then so I put it down to the food not agreeing with me or just eating too much, too fast.
I think that if you were continually sick and felt ill with a fever, the trots and muscle pain then you'd have cause for concern... plus Listeriosis takes around 2 days to take effect on your body. My MW also encouraged me to eat medium cooked meat as the iron content was good for me. I wouldn't worry but if you do feel ill then its always best to go get checked xx

Chill. Probably the fat content upsetting your sensitive, slow working preggo digestive system. If you had full on food poisoning, you would be vomiting a LOT prob have the trots & generally be far too poorly to post on here, & even then, most of the time, the concern is dehydration rather than any risk to baby.

Medium is sufficiently cooked - its heated all the way through. Food poisoning is only really an issue for under cooked foods, where the middle is raw/cold.

Thanks, both of you, you have totally reassured me. I am a worry wort at the best of times!

In case anyone else in a similar quandry reads this I spoke to the midwife (she was lovely and not annoyed I called for something so trivial) and said no to worry unless sickness was prolonged, had pain or bleeding etc.

A note on your post's title:

You are not being daft, you are being pregnant. Its hormones that makes us anxious about every tiny thing that could harm our babies, not silliness. It's perfectly normal.

I'm not saying the burger was risky or that it sounded even vaguely like you had food poisoning, but I mean its normal to worry over tiny things. Its bad enough feeling this anxious without thinking you are meant to be chilled out, relaxed and totally seeing every risk in proportion.

You worried that something might have happened to risk your baby, you asked advice and found out that there is nothing to worry about unless you have more symptoms. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I'm 31 weeks. My morning and the rest of the day sickness didn't really quit until I was almost 20 weeks. But I still find that I am sick if I have a big meal, particuarly if its greasy. I think there is much less room for my stomach in there. Went to a meal at a friends house the other week, the food was lovely (not greasy or anything) and I found that I felt stuffed after eating half the portion everyone else had. I think if I'd tried to eat more then I'd have been sick. So just be aware that your body might not be quite the same with food as it used to be.

Thanks spirited makes me feel a little less paranoid!!!
I am going to be a little more careful diet wise as well, heavy food not really agreeing with me I must admit.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.
