Hi everyone,

Have been suffering with a horrible headache for about 3 days now and sorry to be a pest but I need to moan and put the feelers out there for natural remedies :( Just called Nurse and she reassured me that its most likely my hormones and not to worry. I'm drinking plenty of water, eating enough and sleeping enough but at 18wks I've had enough of it now. Got to say I've been put at ease by reading through previous threads on headaches from other mothers-to-be and its comforting to know I'm not alone. This site is a godsend! I lost my mum a few years ago so going through this pregnancy without her is really really hard, but with this site its like I've got hundreds of mums! xx

Oh no!

You can safely take paracetamol in pregnancy my midwife and GP told me...

Hope you're feeling better soon.

welliesandpyjamas · 22/05/2012 16:26

Paracetamol is safe, like Naisy said.

Nice refreshing shower

Chocolate

Chamomile tea (if close to bedtime)

Mint tea (during the day)

Coffee (small dose, if you can stomach it)

Yoghurt

Jacket potato with your favourite filling

sammey leh,

i know how you feel i also never missed my mum more than when pregnant with 1st child.

i had a crippling headache for three days but more like migrane, the midwives say just paracetomol but a doc can prescribe much more actually.

i was offered asprin and codeine, or co dydramol.

this didnt work but for a milder headache i think it would,

in the end i took one tramadol, i was worried of three days on constant paracetomol and codeine etc.

try and cath headaches early with paracetmol but if its really bad call docs.

of course headaches can also be a sign of high blood pressure as well so if they go on for a while may as well just get blod press checked

sammyleh · 22/05/2012 17:15

Thank you so much ladies... the nurse told me to avoid Paracetamol for as long as I can but I think I might just ignore her, catching it early seems like a no-brainer really. I'll certainly try some of those natural remedies too... especially the chocolate! Thanks for that welliesandpyjamas
elizaregina I think its not having your mum there to turn to and say 'why's this happening?' she always seemed to know the answer to everything.

I get severe headaches that last for 24 hours or longer, even if I take paracetamol. Taking co-codamol shifts them much quicker, and I figure it's better to take one lot of co-codamol than several of paracetamol that isn't working. I take co-codamol for the headaches on the advice of consultant by the way. I k now natural remedies are preferable, but it is debilitating having such a headache for so long- I really do understand! Make sure you keep your jaw relaxed by the way, sometimes I find being in pain for a while means I end up with tension in jaw which makes it worse, sort of feels like you have been clenching your teeth for too long. MIght just be me tho!!

My daughter found that the saline nasal spray from Boots helped her headaches a lot, she suffers from migraine and sinus headaches. I am sending you a big cuddle as well, x

You have my sympathies! I suffered AWFUL headaches when pg with DD. Try:

Paracetamol. Is okay to take infrequently whilst pregnant, but follow it with a strong cup of coffee.

Get a good foot massage too, as massaging certain pressure points in your feet can help relieve a headache.

Get up at EXACTLY the same time every morning. A lie in often brought on a headache with me - not sure why!

Rub the 'V' of skin between your thumb and forefinger on the back of your hand firmly.

Get in the shower and blast your head alternately with cold and hot water...opens constricted blood vessels or something...?

Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated! And eat small, regular meals too.

Cooling head strips and / or those forehead sticks helped a little, as did a vicks inhaler.

Alternating cold / warm compress on back of neck and forehead.

Hope it gets better soon.

moregranny I'm going to try this nasal spray, a few people have mentioned it to me so its certainly worth a try... and thank you for the virtual cuddle, needed that :) Feel so much better today after letting it all out, thanks mums xx

elizaregina I think its not having your mum there to turn to and say 'why's this happening?' she always seemed to know the answer to everything.

Absoluty, i missed her in absoluty every way you can, the joy of being pregnant, not there to share the exitment with, the advise and wisdom and the humour! Seeing other women and thier mums cooing over baby items...talking about what i was like as a baby...etc etc. All the hormones going up and down!

My doc said to me if maternal need is great they can prescribe all sorts of things....someone on here said their amercian doc ( land of suing culture) prescribed her quite high mg dose of diazipam etc due to fear of flying.

If your really suffering dont hold back call docs. I did get to quite a bad state though, sick coz of morning sickness and then migrane sickness on top - sturggling to pick my other DD up etc etc.

elizaregina · 23/05/2012 20:45

I am going to try nasal spray too! I have noticed something nasally going on when been ill..
