I've bought a couple of looser tops, but nothing in my wardrobe fits anymore, especially as my hips/pelvis have got wider. I don't feel like I'm pregnant enough to buy maternity clothes yet. I just look fat. I've never had a flat stomach but I was a size 10-12 on top, but now my stomach just looks so distended and bloated, I can't get it to go down.it just makes me feel really low as it's probably weight gain from unhealthy snacking when I had nausea in the first trimester. can anyone relate?

I can, I remember crying on my Mum when I was 14 weeks with my first as I felt so fat and disgusting.

Try and just relax in a few weeks you will start looking properly pregnant, not long after that you will be frigging massive and more important things will occupy your mind, such as 'who the fuck will tie my shoes' and 'can I cram in one more bar of Dairy Milk without actually exploding'.

Not long after that all you will worry about is how an earth are you going to coax a baby out of your fanjo.

Then all of a sudden 'Ta da' you will be a mother and have no time to worry about anything at all and no brain cells to worry with even if you had the time and no chances to sleep ever to renew those brain cells. At this point you will wish to buggery that you were 17 weeks pregnant and only concerned with being a little bit tubby and having nothing to wear.

Is that the kind of reassurance you were looking for? Grin

Seriously having done it twice, I just wish I had just tried to relax and enjoy it more, try not to let stuff get to you, eat well and get lots of sleep, try and get some exercise, take care of you basically.

I can definitely relate, I m 19 weeks and people have been commenting on the size of my stomach from week 12!! This is my second pregnancy but the exact same thing happened in my first pregnancy as well, really big tummy early on which really stressed me out but by the end I was only 19 pounds heavier and after the birth it dropped off quite quickly.

This time I m not stressing and I started wearing some mat clothes around week 14 because I needed to be comfy, I think most of my bump is still bloating rather than baby. Honestly, try not to get down ( easier said than done), it is only temporary and after the baby is here things will go back to normal. I spent my last pregnancy hiding in the house because I was so embarrassed about my size and now I really regret that I did nt try and enjoy that pregnancy more. Best wishes xxx

Ah Gobblers so eloquently and perfectly put.

I felt very square at that stage, the same as you. You'll soon have a beautiful bump. Enjoy the second trimester :)

Aw, thank you Gobblers - that made me well up! You're right, it's good to put it into perspective.

Really good to hear your experience as a second timer turnwest. I suppose I just feel I shouldn't look this pregnant at this stage, it makes me really self conscious, especially at work.

Sheesh, if you are welling up at my daft rantings then you are seriously hormonal and ahould just lie down, watch shit telly and eat bucket loads of chocolate until it passes.

Grin I'll take your advice!

I feel stupidly bothered by my tummy at (nearly) 14wks despite being on #2... I'm not really sure why, but perhaps because I was showing earlier with this pg but had my scan later, & felt everyone was "looking at me"!!! Daft or what huh??!! Grin

I've bought some cheap, but bigger sized tops, figuring that I'll have something to wear post-baby so I don't have to wear maternity clothes until I'm back to my usual size & hope they'll do before I get the 'proper' bump.

I guess it might help to look for some positive bits of your body - bigger boobs, slim legs, curve on your waist, shiny hair, glowing skin, something to focus on until you're a proud owner of a lovely baby bump? :)

I'm 14 weeks and already put on a stone...some bump but largely breasts which have gone up four sizes....

My Mam did the "you were tiny though" speech today. Didn't make me feel any better!
