Is it safe to have treatments during pregnancy so long as you inform the therapist that you are pregnant. I had a manicure yesterday and would love a pedicure but know that they use a vibrating cuticle machine and a foot bath with bubbles etc and was wondering if these things were alright?

I've had pedicures - the spa person needs to avoid massaging around your ankles. I think the rest is okay, but check with someone. Enjoy!

oh, and avoid aromatherapy oils.

Why is that oranges? about the ankles? do you know?

Ankles are a pressure point that can trigger premature contractions of your uterus. I think realistically, you have to massage it for hours to have that effect, but they suggest avoiding it to be on the safe side.

Have you had manicures oranges?

Yes, had one yesterday in fact at 8 months pg. It was fine. TBH, my feet get getting manky because I could not bend down to put cream on them properly. The predicure worked wonders. Most therapists know what to avoid doing. Honestly can't see what harm a bubble foot bath would do. Found this online - it seems common sense really. If it makes you feel ill, stop.

-- For many pregnant women, indulging in a manicure or pedicure every now and then is a great way to pamper themselves and lift their spirits. In addition, as your belly grows, it often gets increasingly difficult to trim your toenails (not to mention paint them), making a pedicure all the more useful. While there is no evidence of any true danger associated with getting a manicure or pedicure during pregnancy, the chemical fumes that sometimes go along with these treatments can make you feel ill. Try to make sure that you are in a relatively open area with sufficient ventilation, and that you are not exposed to the vapors for a long period of time.

Katzg has a couple of pregnancy massages at our local Spa. Not allowed in first trimester, but recommended as fine after that.

I@m going to a Mother to Be day at a Champneys near me in April, (Hurrah!!) and I'll be about 6 months then. I think if you tell the therapist they will know what you can or can't have when pregnant. I also have regular pedicures when I am pregnant, it is a fantastic way to relax, have fun!

I think it is safe to have certain treatments between 12 and 36 weeks. I went to the Sanctuary in London last feb when 32weeks. Like the other ladies have said, the therapist will know what she can or cannot use.
