Low bp isn't generally something to worry about. It is very common in early pregnancy and generally normalises by around 20 weeks. It might contribute to feelings of tiredness. Try not to be standing still for long periods as doing so can allow bp to fall and cause dizziness or fainting. Speak to your midwife if you think your bp is causing you any problems

I took mine last night at inlaws as they have one of those wrist ones and mine came out low 102 over 62. I do feel more tired the last few days but I will wait until I see midwife on Tuesday as I never belive do it yourself ones.

JTN if you want confirmation of it ring the midwife and remind her that you were talking about it before you gor interupted and would like your mind putting at rest.

I had low bp in each of my pregnanacies, I was fine - just remember to rest if you do feel alittle light headed and eat regulary too.

Hayls · 17/02/2006 13:14

I had low bp throughout my pg and fainted in Debenhams at 16 weeks carted away in an ambulance. Think the lowest it went to was 90/55 but I was OK. Just stand up slowly, sit down if you fel dizzy and talk to your mw again!

It's also a good excuse to eat chocolate (I had low blood sugar too so that was my excuse!)

mythumbelinas · 17/02/2006 13:17

I told my midwife about my light headedness and wanting to faint during both my pregnancies, but she didn't seem concerned. She advised breathing into a brown paper bag! BP was 80/50 on average.
Everytime i went supermnarket, i would try to stay mobile, but as soon as i had to queue up at check out, i'd feel faint, dizzy and often blackout. I'd have to squat or if i saw a seat go sit down. I'd be offered a hot cuppa tea, but nobody realised i was pregnant, coz i didn't start showing till almost 6 months.

I've always had low bp and it got even lower during pregnancies. It was always commented on, I was asked if I had any symptoms, if not (which I didn't) no action would be taken.
Hope you're feeling okay.

HellKat · 17/02/2006 15:30

I've always had low blood pressure even when I'm not pg! Sometimes you feel a little faint but apart from that it's ok.

slinkstah · 17/02/2006 15:40

my normal bp is 100/60 but the other day it dropped to 70/30, i was half passed out when i took my bp, it came on suddenly and i was already lying down at the time so it was weird to pass out whilst lying down.

i'd rather have low bp than high, as it means we can eat more rubbish without getting heart desease and from what i can tell on the internet it rarely means anythings wrong.

also think ive read somewhere that some old tribes in africa had unusually low bps and used to live well beyond human expectation.

mythumbelinas · 17/02/2006 16:05

Yeah, i normally have low bp too (just got much worse when pregnant .. found having a bag of fizzy cola bottles at hand was good) and was told it's ok, better than having high bp!
I do find if i'm in car and the driver makes a U turn, i tend to go faint, or if driver misses turning at roundabout and goes round again i will go funny aswell.
kayzed - the check-out thing. In the end my dad would come with me and i'd sit down while he queued up

RedZuleika · 17/02/2006 16:44

My blood pressure (always optimal to low) dropped to 90-something over 50-something when pregnant - but not till about the 5th month. I stopped driving for a while.

My consultant was pleased though.

Miaou · 17/02/2006 16:50

I have low blood pressure too - 90/50 and it didn't change during pg either! I always carried dried fruit and nuts with me for a quick boost if needed. There is a very interesting website about low blood pressure somewhere ... hold on...

Miaou · 17/02/2006 16:54

here it is

alliep30 · 17/02/2006 16:55

mine was very low too.. fainted in m&s 60 miles from home with my mum and sis.. I was the only one who could drive!!!! so if you're feeling wobbly, just take it easy.. was v anaemic as they messed my bloods up twice, so plenty of iron helped too.. dried fruit, etc

Mercy · 17/02/2006 16:56

It's meant to be lower when you are pregnant (can't remember why though). Unless you feel unwell I wouldn't worry too much. In my last pregnancy, mine was regularly 90/50.

When is your next appointment?

It's when it's high they start to worry.

Mistymoo · 17/02/2006 16:57

I was always told I had low blood pressure all the way through my pregnancies but was never told that it was something to worry about.

poppiesinaline · 17/02/2006 18:01

I have low bp anyway but in pregnancy it used to drop even lower. Went down to 80/45 at one point. I remember one antenatal visit during 3rd preg I cried on the midwife cos I was feeling so tired and so crap and she took my bp and said that she wasn't surprised! Low bp amongst other things can make you feel really crap BUT she added, is very good for the baby. So chin up girl. Your baby likes it!
