Hello all I am sat in bed on bed rest (orders by my EPU) after starting to spot this morning with lots of pain. I had the same thing last week and was told I had a small subchorionic hematoma and that might be the reason for the bit of blood but it should go away. I am quite nervous as only 7 weeks pregnant and lost one this time last year at 11 weeks. I have a toddler and never had any problems with that pregnancy. I am just wondering if anyone else has had a subchorionic hematoma and how their pregnancy went. I don't want to feel neurotic every time I get a twinge as I'm not good at this bed rest thing! Any advice would be gratefully received.

Yes. I had this. I was on bed rest for 10 weeks whilst taking Progesterone. I had 3 huge bleeds. I am now 20 weeks. Please rest - I also hated bed rest, but you have to do it.

I have one with this pregnancy im 9 weeks now and had a little bleed at 6 weeks went for a scan on Saturday and they said I had a large bleed and have to go back for another scan next Thursday to see if its getting smaller. Its just a waiting game really and its horrible I wad told it should bleed out either as a gush of blood or spotting for weeks or your body can absorb it. I was also told that with mine if it gets bigger it could push the baby out causing be to miscarry. i don't know the size of mine they just said large and I saw it on the scan which was upsetting but there is nothing we can do. How big is yours?? Xx

I'm going through this now. I'm 13.5 weeks and bled a week ago. It was a monumental bleed, left a puddle on the floor. My baby however is ok despite the large clot next to it on the scan.

I've not been given any bed rest orders as there is no cause for subchorionic heamatoma and is apparently not activity related. I was told the blood will come out no matter what, it has nowhere else to go!

I 'm still losing a brownish loss (eww) and an having weekly checks with midwife to listen in just to reassure me! Still very frightening tho!

Actually, it can be reabsorbed into the body.

Spinty - that sounds horrible.

I was told my body would reabsorb it eventually. Mine is obviously a small one as have had no gushes! Just went to the doctors for reassurance and he had never heard of a subchorionic hematoma Hmm and started googling it! Not very reassuring. I was told by EPU to go back if it doesn't settle down. Ideally I'd like a scan to see that the baby is ok!

TheQueenOfSheba - you are right. Bed rest is the best (safest) option. I will just have to grin and bear it! Only downside is I'm a freelancer. no work no pay :(

I had one too :( bled daily for many weeks and hospitalized twice. It caused anaemia obviously and I was often bloated and uncomfortable due to the build up of blood that would then pour out. I spent nearly every weekend in a&e. I was put on bed rest for a while, signed off work and rested as much as I could with a 4 year old. Family and friends luckily helped out alot and I am so grateful. It is such a scary thing to happen and it seems impossible that that much stuff could pour out of u and everything still be ok. But hang in there a good out come is possible! I'm sat with my beautiful amazing 17m old as we speak. :)
