What are you using for bedding with your newborn?

I am so confused about baby bedding. Which blankets to use, if at all? To swaddle or not to swaddle? I have someone knitting me a shawl, have a heavier blanket and a light cotton blanket. What else do I need? Baby due 28th May.

Cellular blankets do the job perfect m with summer coming you'll need to be able to easily add/remove layers

I'd second cellular blankets.

I have two flat sheets for Moses basket.
I personally wouldn't buy a swaddling blanket. Choose a blanket you like- like a cellular or a pretty coloured cotton one, take it to the hospital and the mw will show you how to swaddle with a normal blanket.

The knitted one I would keep for the pushchair, or for the car, or for when baby is a little older- the wool can be very itchy.

And as soon as mine stopped being swaddled( about 3-4 weeks for me) I started to use gro bags. They are fantastic. And if you get the gro bag branded ones you normally get a room thermometer too and next to the temperature reading it tells you what to dress baby in.

But I have always used flat sheets and fitted sheets for cot bed, gro bags and cellular blankets to use to swaddle, while they've been in their bouncy chairs, in the buggy etc.

I had a normal fitted sheet on the cot, and just a cotton cellular blanket most of the time (DS born 2nd july). If it was colder, then I had a fleece blanket from Ikea (£1 and huge! cut up to size) and used that over top of cellular one.
We were given a few grobags, but personally didn't get on with them, as DS liked to sleep on his tummy and move aroud lots (from 3 days old) and they were too restrictive. Same would go for swaddling I guess. Personally I would never swaddle, but that's my opinion.

We got those Velcro cocoon swaddle blankets. Fine for the first week but dd decided she HAD to sleep with her arms out but if your baby ends up liking it they are handy to have
