so when they say you can exercise but don't raise your body temperature, what does that mean, and what does it leave to do?

I hate walking, swimming and yoga

I love running, sweaty exercise classes/dvds, horse riding (obv not doing that one)

I am a greedy guts, I NEED my exercise and I need it to count!

what can I do if I'm not supposed to sweat?

They ask if anyone is pregnant at the start of really hard sweaty gym classes so they can give exercise adjustments, but then every thing I read says don't raise your body temperature???

When I was pregnant, my GP and midwife gave me the generally accepted advice, which is that you're fine to continue anything you already do regularly, but don't take up anything new, listen to your body and keep it going as long as you feel comfortable with it. I carried on running until about 20 weeks, when it got uncomfortable- DS seemed to be bouncing up and down on my bladder and I had to keep nipping behind bushes to try to pee! If you're a runner, speak to your GP/midwife and carry on, if that's what you enjoy.

Sweating a bit is fine, just don't overheat. I'm finding it rubbish too, used to love a proper workout, now not motivated to go to gym at all as i've had to cut so much from routine.

Personally, i would say that you can sweat monkeymoma and you can raise your body temperature but with caution and not excessively. I certainly did with both of my pregnancies and I know I'm not alone. I ran and went to gym and did everything I did before the pregnancy but just toned it down tad. I did a spinning class the day i gave birth to DD (she was 2 weeks late and I was willing to try anything Smile). Both of my DCs are perfectly healthy in every way.

I didn't know i was pregnant for first 8 weeks and I was in India running along the beach with a face like a tomato, feeling like I was going to explode from the heat and doing 4 hours of intense yoga in the jungle every day losing half my body weight in sweat.
Probably not advised! Hoping any issues that might have arisen from that will have already surfaced... eek

Anyway, I'm still running, but overheating not a problem in this inclement weather. Not done gym classes, but in yoga I go near the door and if I feel the heat rising to my face, then I just have some water or pop outside for a few minutes.

I'll start spinning when I can't cycle anymore.

Is the overheating thing a concern throughout the whole pregnancy or just first trimester? I had it in my head it was just the first but I don't know...

I'm with Mckenzie. I'm 30 weeks and am still doing most things. I did a run a couple of weeks ago but getting achy legs now do think I might stop that. Still spinning, swimming and going to the gym. I sweat and raise my heart rate and baby seems to be doing just find

I ran and did step aerobics (not necessarily recommended but I've been doing it for ages) until I started to feel too big (around 5 months), then switched to spinning, walking, strength-training and aerobics on the flat. It's fine to work up a sweat; just try to work out in air-conditioned gyms and take it easy on very hot days. Make sure you drink lots of water and refuel properly too. I was cycling the day before I had DC3 and all my kids are healthy and happy. It boosts your circulation, cuts down on water retention etc. I think I even remember reading a study once that linked higher IQs in babies born to mothers who exercised during pregnancy! Checking with your doctor first should go without saying. Good Luck Smile

Sweating is fine - it just means your body is doing the right thing to cool itself down. Just don't over exert yourself - I found running so I could still speak in sentences was a good guide.

great thanks! I'm 6 weeks BTW

I used to run 5k 3 times a week plus shred/other JM DVD/ministry of sounds plus body combat and body balance classes, had a bit of bleeding at 4 weeks which stopped so I stopped exercising and took it easy, I'm still waiting for an early scan but hCG levels went up nicely so fingers crossed everything is okay.

I want to exercise again after the early scan, I really miss it, the couple of weeks break won't matter too much will it? I have an active physical job and get back ache if I don't stay fit outside of work.

thanks
