How soon can I go for a run post-pregnancy?

god I miss running!

Had to stop in my 1st trimester due to numerous bleeding episodes. Now 33wks and itching to get back out there (not least because of all the cake I've been consuming)

Who went running soon after childbirth? How soon did you go out? It's a possibility I might end up having a c section - someone tell me I won't have to wait three blinking months?

AFAIK you can resume gentle exercise 6 weeks after birth (or when you feel ready to, or more likely, when you actually get time to!)

If you start and find its too much too soon, just stop!

With DS I started gently running after 11 weeks. With DD it was 5 months, took much longer to recover from crash section with her, and so much more tired with two. Am on week 4 of c to 5k, but used to run 10k three times a week.

I know its not running, but I went to Zumba when DD2 was 3 weeks old. It all depends when you feel ready.

BikeRunSki Sad 5 months! poor you.

i did my 1st ever half marathon just before I got preg. am feeling desperate at the thought that I might have to go back and restart couch to 5k.

FartBlossom 3 weeks is pretty impressive! am guessing you didn't have a section?

no I didnt thankfully. I had been walking plenty before I went to zumba too. I have now currently just started week 5 of C25K, but DD2 is now 7.5MO :)

I think DS was about 2 1/2 months but never really got back in the swing for various reasons, mostly related to DH's working hours. I had been planning on making a bit more effort once I got back to work, but was pregnant again by then.

I have a GNR place for this year which I will defer until 2013 so I'm planning to start something like couch to 5K in January if possible as DC2 sHould be 3 months by then. A bit annoying to be back at the beginning but not the first time I've been in this situation and at least this time I've been off doing something useful rather than just being lazy!

I just hope that I'm going to be quite as enthusiastic about this when the time comes as I am now!

I've recently read an article that said gentle exercise was ok after a week. I'm going with that. I'm sure I won't be up to running then, but I will be running as soon as I possibly can, I miss it so much, almost as much as I miss wine! I'm due in 2 weeks and I'm intending to do a marathon and a half ironman next year so I need to get training!

My pelvic floor would have been my main issue with running, once everything else had healed. Perhaps focus on that for the first few weeks, and building up your core strength in your abdominals. I got no discernible response from either pelvic floor or abdominal muscles for at least a week (it's the weirdest thing ever, telling your muscles to move and finding nothin there!). Depends on the individual of course and how your body responded to pregnancy.

I went swimming at 6 weeks post which was heaven, however it did trigger a bleed after and I had to tone down my expectations for another couple of weeks. I did really enjoy walking quite long distances in the interim, once my ladybits had healed.
