Long haul flight 22 weeks

Am I mad to even be considering a long haul flight at 22 weeks?

We are thinking of flying to Malaysia in August, but just worrying about the fact that I will be 22 weeks. Has anyone else done it? Are there any risks?

Thanks

I did Manchester to Mexico at 24 weeks with dc1, back at 26 weeks, qp hour flight. It was fine. Drink loads, move around, no problem.

did manchester to new york at 23 weeks. Absolutly fine, make sure you move around the cabin and get flight socks, drink lots too. Just make sure you tell your travel insurance your pregnant and take your notes with you. Have a fab time, you'll not want to do a long flight once the baby it here! Well maybe you will and your kids wont be whirlwinds who wont keep still :-)

There are no risks while flying pg. I have flown when I was 26wks pg to St.Lucia. All fine. Also flew in the early stages to Sydney with dd1 who was 13mo and a complete nightmare child

The flying is not a problem, but def need flight socks- proper ones that are the right size for you. Sitting still and being pregnant is a much higher risk for DVT, especially if you are overweight or have varicose veins (I realise this may not apply to you personally!)

I'm planning to fly to Vegas (from UK) at 26 weeks! its my first so I'm living in ignorant bliss that It Will Be Fine!

I did 30ish hours to NZ at around 21/22 weeks. It was fine except that the tray table didn't really it comfortably! I took lots of fruit, grapes and sugar snap peas to snack on for the journey which helped neutralise the horrible plane food.

I don't think your worry should be the flight itself (I did a flight at 26 weeks) but more the travel insurance... Virgin do very good pregnancy travel insurance that was reasonably priced and covers unborn baby too.. I'd be worried about the standard of healthcare where I was going and picture myself in early labour and whether I could feel comfortable in that environment.

Hope it all goes ok.

I flew to Alaska when I was 30 weeks pg with DS1 (we were living in NY at the time). As long as your doctor (or MW) thinks it's okay, it's fine. And as long as you feel well and mentally okay with it - if you're going to stress out the entire time it might not be worth it.

I did the same as buntycollocks and had no problems.

I took aspirin for 3 days before my flights ( on the advice of me and backed up by a consultant friend), wore flight stockings, drank loads of water and moved around lots during the flight.

The holiday was pure bliss and was the last really relaxing one that we went on!!!

Flew to Australia at 21 weeks and no problems except feeling uncomfortable on the plane being in a tight space. I walked around alot and drank lots of water.

I flew to SA at 24weeks and it was fine. As all the other posters have said get the flight socks and walk around and drink a lot. I also got a letter from my doctor saying I was fit to fly, just in case. I have heard some airlines being funny about letting you on the plane.

Enjoy your trip.
