Please help. I just ate a sandwich which had some blue cheese in it and I did not realise until I finished. I am in such a panic. I know that I am not meant to. Has anyone else eaten blue cheese in pregnancy?

I've eaten blue cheese throughout this pregnancy - has anyone ever met anyone who has caught listeria from cheese? I think I read there are about two people per decade or something!

bibbitybobbitybunny · 11/05/2012 19:39

I have never met anyone who has had listeria afaik, darkmatter. Or salmonella. Or e-coli. It is all extremely rare.

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 11/05/2012 19:48

This should reassure you, it really is rare -
Between 2000 and 2009, the annual number of laboratory-confirmed cases of listeriosis more than doubled from 114 to 234 cases in the UK. In 2010, there was a drop in laboratory-confirmed cases (to 174), although this remains above levels observed in the 1990s.

I am very sure that stilton has been taken off the long list of no-no foods because I told DH and henwas gutted thatbhe couldn't remove the stinky cheese from the fridge :o

Seriously, don't worry about it. I craved parma ham and boursin sandwiches when I was pg with DS and only got up to about 25 weeks before I sneaked off with 5 smoked salmon and brie sandwiches from a work buffet. DS is fine.

AKMD it's a very short list nowadays :) link up there ^

I am currently expecting DC3 and have a Brie and cranberry sandwich everyday for lunch. I regularly eat Stilton and sea food and so far have been fine!

I take the guide lines now with a pinch of salt apart from alcohol and caffeine but that's only because my body doesn't cope well with caffeine anyway.

I'd stay away from drugs but I think you'll be fin with Stilton :0
