Hello

Am 10 weeks preg with DC3. DS is almost 6 and DD is 3.4. Have been feeling less sick the last few weeks, but way more tired. I have been up since 6 this morning and been running around busy the whole day. School runs, homework, sainsburys etc. I feel completely wiped out. Look pale and awful too. The problem is, I have a night shift o do tonight, from 1930-0800. I have no idea how I will get through it and I absolutely can't call in sick. Any tips on how to get through it? Foods or tips?

TIA

SC

You need help with childcare in the daytime so you can rest (even if it's a friend having your 3 years old over to play for the day). Online shopping is your friend. Can someone have your son over to play after school for a bit?

Tonight, I think you need to consider whether you can do your job safely. If you can then hot drinks and keeping on your feet will help. If not then you need to consider that someone with a daytime job wouldn't spend all night running around the house and going shopping so you can't spend all day doing that just because your job is at night. You owe it to your employer and yourself to plan how you will fit in at least six hours sleep in 24 (and I mean that kindly).

I feel your pain! I work nights and I'm 24 weeks. I have really struggled some nights, I find that around 4ish I feel like death! At around 16-20 weeks was the worst, my blood pressure was ridiculously low and I'd feel sick, hot, weak and dizzy as soon as the tiredness hit. It has got a bit better now but I can't wait to start maternity leave! Grin

I get through it by trying to drink lots of water, snack regularly, and try and close my eyes for a few minutes in my early morning break. I try to rest before work - dh drops dd in breakfast club so I can have a lie in, and then I put a film on for her in the afternoon so I can dose on the sofa.

It's really hard, good luck for tonight x

doze on the sofa, not sure what I'd dose myself with! Grin

Thanks everyone.

I only do two nights a week. Usually childcare is sorted for the weekday shifts, and DH is here for the weekend ones, but today has been a one off. I know I can power through and do my job safely, it's just a matter of trying not to feel to horrendous while doing it! Am working on a neurosurgery ward. We usually get a break of 1.5-2 hours, where we can 'unofficially' get some rest. So fingers crossed we're not too busy. I have nothing to do tomorrow so can fall into bed at 9am and sleep until about 3pm. Have packed a couple of biscuits and a Mug Shot noodle thing for snack at work.
