Has anyone dyed muslins?

Hi, I am looking at large muslin clothes for swaddling in a large size. Love the Faye and Lou colours, but not the extra large size (Cozio) ones. It seems they only have 'girl pack' available.

I was wondering if anyone had dyed any plain white or cream muslins in bright colours and what the success rate was?

You can buy them on eBay that someone has already coloured they look very funky

. However im sure it was a thread on here talking about colouring cot sheets or some such. They went from pale pink to dark blue or something but because baby's things get washed loads they ended up back pink in a couple of months.

Id guess from what everyone says about them muslins may get washed more frequently too and you expect them to last a long time so it may be a waste of money

Yes, I used Dylon machine dye. The turquoise and sunshine yellow were particularly successful. The orange and purple were slightly dull.

Yes - I used dylon hand dye and they held their colour well. I thought the orange and purple came out well; did dark green too.

My muslins have gone pink accidentally so it must be easy to do Smile

Years ago when I had DS I dyed the white muslins that we'd used with DD as they'd become a bit discoloured.

Looking at the range now I think it was Ocean Blue machine dye, a nice bright colour. It was really effective and they kept their colour really well despite endless washing as DS was forever regurgitating his milk (and worse!).

My friend dyed all her muslins shocking pink. They looked fab and held their colour (her daughter has just turned 5 and they are still very bright)

Fab. I've bought 3 plain muslins from ASDA for £3.50 so am going to give it a test run on those!

What about Aden and Anais large mussies? We have a pack of four giant ones, all white with bright coloured stars on them. So lovely Grin

I love those Gnocchi - planning on buying the star ones for swaddling.

But for all purpose muslins I'd like to colour some. 20 week scan tomorrow so should be able to pick a colour soon!

yes i have done this loads!!! i use the dylon cold dyes to do it, just in a bucket of water, instruction come with the dye, i have also tie dyed some to get patternts its VERY easy and works brilliantly i often do it on old muslins that are getting a bit manky looking! Grin

I never even considered dying muslins! We have around 15 little square ones for bottles etc, and it never crossed my mind to dye them, but I think I ight just do it. I know Wilko's do boxes of relatively cheap fabric dye, so may pick up a couple of boxes.
