We are off to Santorini in a couple of weeks, yay! I have never been pregnant before or flown whilst pregnant before so just wondered if theres anyhting else I need to do/be aware of. i thought the below might also be a handy checklist for anyone else going on holiday soon.

I have flight socks, and will do leg exercises on the plane
I have ordered Mosi-guard (insect repellent safe for use in pregnancy)
I have had translated a few words about being pregnant and being rhesus negative into Greek.
I will drink bottled water whilst there.
I've got the EHIC card and travel insurance.
I wasn't planning on taking my notes with me- not sure how much use they would be in Greece?
Plenty of books for relaxing by the pool Grin

Any other thoughts?

TIA

How many months pregnant are you? Greece is very safe (from health perspective) and have been there many times when pregnant. Also it is a short flight so you should be fine - for such a short flight there isn't really risk of DVT I would think (but check with your doctor/midwife). Main things are making sure you have your health and travel insurance sorted just in case (sounds like you do). If you are more than 6-7 months, take your notes with you. Don't forget sunscreen!

Thanks- I ought to have said, I'll be 19weeks when we fly. Yes I think risk of DVT is increased for flights of 5 hours or longer and the flight to Santorini is 4 hours.

2nd trimester is the best time to travel - enjoy!

So envious! I've been unsuccessfully petitioning DH for a trip back to Santorini!

My favourite place for lunch was Sunset Taverna (obviously spelt differently in Greek!) which is at Amoudi port in Oia. Quite a few steps down, but there might be an easier route if you ask your hotel. We had lunch there every day and ate Scorpion fish which sounds scary but was divine!

I'd take your notes in your hand luggage: better to have them and not need them than the other way around!

If you have any issues, they could at least see what your normal blood pressure etc is.

I'm only 21 weeks and flying out this weekend for a few days. The mw reminded me twice at my appointment the other day to take my notes with me.

Just got back from Kefalonia and am also 19 weeks (was 18 when there) MW told me not to bother taking my notes but to make sure I knew what my blood group was. Also said to drink lots of water and stay out of hot sun, I sat in shade a lot and it was fine.

I went to Rome in my 2nd trimester. Midwife said to wear flight socks and drink plenty of water. I personally didn't take my notes, instead I wrote my nhs number, hospital number, date of birth, full name, hospital, gp, midwife (with contact numbers) and when baby is due on paper, one copy in my luggage and one in my husband's.
