This is my second pregnancy, and last time I gradually gained three stone (!), only two of which I lost before I fell pregnant again (9 months after dd was born).

I'm not dieting, not really even exercising, apart from walking about 2-3 miles every day and occassional visits to the gym, but I've lost 7lbs since I became pregnant. Is this a problem do you think? Should I ask my midwife? (I dont have an appointment with her til I'm 16 weeks, so I'd have to call her.)

Are you eating well?

I lost about 10lb in the first trimester of my first pregnancy but that was because I was so nauseous I couldn't really eat.

If you are eating properly and still losing weight then, yes, I do think you should mention it.

Do you usually drink a fair bit? I lost weight during my first trimester because in cutting out wine I cut a significant amount of calories from my diet Blush

Check with your midwife if you're concerned.

Are you throwing up or very nauseous? If so I think you should mention it, yes. 7lb is half a stone which is quite a bit, though I think what they look for is percentage of your starting body weight. So a loss of more then 5% of where you started is taken fairly seriously, 10% or more very seriously.

I am nearly 10 weeks with hyperemesis and have lost a whole stone (9 stone to start with, 8 stone now). Came off within just three weeks from all the vomiting which is officially Not Good and I'm on meal replacement drinks to try to stop the weight loss. I think it has leveled off now but I'm definitely not putting any on yet.

If you're not sick and you feel OK in yourself it might just be dietary changes maybe? If you're craving healthier stuff than you were, or from cutting out alcohol/coffee shop visits or whatever.

This is exactly what happened to me.

I had a BMI of 29.5 at 9 week booking in appt (already 3 pounds down on original weight). Got a lecture from mid-wife about not putting too much wieght on for health reasons.

I then lost a further 5/6 pounds by around 13 weeks, and stayed their until 19 weeks. I wasn't sick, but I did get quite bad food aversions.

Check with your midwife if you are worried, but from the asking around I've done this isn't a problem so long as you weren't underweight to being with.

I had exactly the same thing. I am currently 13 weeks and have lost roughly half a stone. Was about 9 stone 7, went down to 8 stone 11, and now at 9 stone 2. Asked my MW if this is normal and she said it was really common. I have had a scan at 6+4 and 10+5 and baby was fine both times - strong heartbeat and a good size. I have another scan tomorrow so fingers crossed everything is still going well.
If you are still concerned call your MW to put your mind at rest. For now, enjoy the smaller waist and bigger boobs! Smile

I'm not sick, not reducing coffee or wine as didn't have much before, just not eating as much, particularly in the evenings.

I was bmi 27 I think on booking in and am now 26, so still 'overweight' so probly not really a problem. Might call MW just in case.
